We took a point from a team that's been due for a win with our rookie backup goalie. We're 7-1-3 with at least a point in 10 of the last 11. Whats the problem here again?

What, that our entire 4th line didn't score because ZOMG WE NEED TERTIARY SCORING (Tertiary is 4, right)? Are we still frustrated that Higgins cant score? More Dredden/Blowzitall/Dreary bashing? Did hank let in another "soft" goal? Do we need Colton Orr back? Miss Purcha/Dawes/Korpikowski? Should we have tendered a contract to Jagr? Does Sather suck? Is Torts a bully and a chicken? Is the team lazy? No heart? Need to protect Hank? Need to crash the net? Is it embarrassing Avery is on the first line? Miss Prospal? Are Del Zotto and Gilroy making a lot of (rookie) mistakes? Should we tank for Hall? We're a team of mediocre 3rd liners right? Is the sky falling? Did I cover it all?

DEAR GOD PEOPLE.

Well yes, if playing well means consistently good on defense and in goal.

The offense and the PP are just brutal.

Reminds me of the first half of last season. Its the same problems.

But last year, people were screaming bloody murder, and this season we're "playing well"

I cant help but laugh.

I am fine with us getting 1 point on the road with a rookie back up goal tender making his debut against one of the best scorers in the league. 1 point = good deal.

This team has been playing better as of late. They are finding ways to win games, and they're getting goals from different players.
There's much work to be done, but at least we're seeing progress in some areas. you have to factor in that this is essentially a "new" squad
finding their way together along the way.

Does it bother some people that much that Renney was fired
that they have to infer hypocrisy anytime this current team wins or loses?

If it was just last night, ok.

To find his last loss in regulation to NYR, you have go back to April '07 when the Rangers swept Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs.

To find his last loss during the regular season to NYR, set your time machine for 2/13/03.

Since the lockout, regular season, 7-0-2 (both shootout losses) against NYR.

You'd think someone in the division would trade for him

Drury ended up with 7 blocked shots last night. Great job by him. He isnt scoring, but at least is doing other things.

Last season we were +2.7 in shots differential per game while scoring slightly more. This season we're -0.4 in shot differential per game. Just thought that was interesting.

And there it is in black and white. And thats with Gaborik. Ouch!

For the record, Im not upset Renney was fired. I was upset last season when countless people insisted that Renney was the problem and he was the one holding the offense back, refusing to believe it was a personnel issue. And Im even more upset that most of those people havent owned up to that error, with some even existing that this team is "playing well" while they hammered last year's squad.

I had the Atlanta feed last night, unfortunately, and when Drury took that shot high on the chest near the end of regulation, they chimed in with, "See Jeremy Roenick, THAT'S why he's on the team".

I'm happy with a point don't get me wrong, I'm just pissed that they can't beat this team. I mean out of their last 16 games they allowed 3 goals in each game but one, against us of all teams. I can understand wanting to play conservative in front of a rookie goalie, but come on did any of you think the Rangers would hold onto a 1-0 lead going into the 3rd?

Couldn't agree more. I was VERY upset with him a few weeks ago but lately, he's been impressing the heck out of me.

Ehh, I'm usually hard on this team but I'm just thrilled they got a point.

I was at Wednesday's game and the team put up a good effort, killing off 6 penalties including a 5-on-3. Then they have to get on a plane to ATL late that night and play the next day. They were probably exhausted last night and it showed.

The fact that they were able to squeeze a point out last night, with a rookie goaltender making his first career start, is fine with me. I'd be far more pissed off at the team if they were playing at home after a few days off and played the way they did last night.

Despite the minimal difference in offensive improvement between this team and last years, I still consider this season a step forward.

Last year was basically a patchwork of veterans and young guys hoping to find some chemistry which didn't work.

While we still have a few vets on the line-up this year, there has been a definite youth movement. We have two rookies playing consistent roles on defensive. I know of no other team doing that. In total we have seen four rookies debut on defense. We have now debuted a rookie goaltender. While not all these guys are improvements, our offseason acquisitons are younger and harder working( kotalik the exception) than those who departed ( see naslund and zherdev). Anisimov is another rookie with a permanent role.

While the results currently aren't better, they shouldn't necessarily be better. What has gotten better and has me optimistic is the potenial and the direction the team is heading toward the future. Granted it still has a ways to go, but dramatic step have been taken since last year and they are almost all positive.

Hahaha, yeah, I commented on that in this GDT when it was said. I love it...because I hate JR and because it's a true statement.
