the good:
-we won the freakin game
-bogosian is back
-best defensive game all year imo
-peverley should have had about 5 goals
-we actually looked like we cared for most of that
-jim freakin slater
the bad:
-wtf peverley, you dominate all game and then lose the puck when the pressure is on. i'm starting to think peverley can only score when we're tied or ahead.
-bogosian needs to avoid being an extra forward in sudden death situations. especially when the only two forwards are kovy and maxy...probably our two worst players defensively
-we made a guy starting his first evetr game look like patrick roy
I wouldn't put anything into the first game goalie thing. Lots of goalies have an awesome game their first time out simply because nobody knows how to play them

In addition:
Good:
Morale at casino night is going be a whole lot better than having 10 losses on everyone's minds.
Bad:
JA keeps his job for the time being.

I was thinking the same thing. It is like a rookie pitcher in baseball pitching his first game. The batters have never faced him and have a hard time reading him. Same goes with goalies.

When Bogo threw that pass straight back while he's pinned in the corner in OT.... major facepalm momemt..... Hainsey had nice positioning to help prevent a major letdown - deflecting the Gaborik shot off his skate out into the netting. Let's just hope Bogo will learn to pick his spots a bit better.
Don't forget Anssi. Keep the guy in the lineup. He's servicable, and fiesty too!
This game was something, but thankfully that streak is OVER. Now hope the team can swing the other way and get a big win streak to stay in the hunt...
Biggest player I saw in this game was Little (That was before he netted the SO winner ). He had hustle and wheels all game tonight and was drawing enough attention from defenders to give Kovy just enough room to work something. Too bad his bids (like Peverley's) didn't go in during regular time.
Oh, and if Slater keeps scoring like this, Anderson is gonna have to bench someone, and maybe it will be Todd White, who seems to do nothing this season, somereason, somehow.
No way, keep the big guy on the first line when he returns, he creates way more space for Kovalchuk. I’d be willing to bet that if he was playing tonight we would have won that game in regulation.
I say keep the guy with 36 points and that is a plus 14 on the first line, call me crazy?!?!?
That line they ran tonight with Kovy, Pevs and Little didn’t produce a single point, and I believe they were all in the minus column as well.
I agree with all the good vs. bad posts, but I'll add one more good. The biggest improvement I noticed last night was the all around passing. Pucks were actually hitting the tape and not bouncing off sticks to the other team. I didn't see nearly as many of those stupid no look-drop passes that seems to create all those 2 or 3 on 1's. Good game...hopefully this keeps going through the homestand.
Also...at the end of regulation, Bogo sat behind the net for the last 10 secs to let the clock run, and the fans booed. This confused the announcer. It confused me at first, but then it hit me...we still haven't won in regulation in a month and a half (or something). Booing may have been slightly harsh, but fans are certainly frustrated.

umm...did you watch the game or just check the score sheet?
they were easily the best three players on the ice last night. the number of times peverley and little were robbed was ridiculous. antropov's good, but from the time peverley got here he and kovalchuk have had instant chemistry every time they were on the ice. peverley>antropov in every aspect of the game aside from board play and screening. and i'm someone who was pushing hard to sign antropov last offseason. you can't just say they had no points last game so obviously they aren't as good of a line because we scored ONE goal in regulation against a goalie that played out of his mind and still had to be ridiculously lucky to not let up 5 goals.
but even if it's a cardinal sin to take antropov off the first line at least keep peverley and little on the same line
put kane on a line with actual scorers already and not other grind it out players like armstrong and reasoner. with those lines you would have at least one guy that knows how to use his body on every line
antropov
kane
armstrong
basically the entire 4th line

we were booing the decision to run the clock out rather than show some effort and attempt a final drive

With the luck the team was having with bounces and stuff in that game, I'm sure you would have booed even louder if they tried to get it out for a scoring chance and something happened and we got one put in our net with about 1 second to spare.

there were rangers players all around him and one slightly bad pass or bobble would have ended in disaster and another loss. do you honestly think the 12 in a million chance that they could have even gotten a good shot off in 10 seconds is worth the much higher chance of committing a turnover trying to do things too fast and allowing a goal?
Why are people booing Bogosian for sitting behind the net? Like he was actually gonna go coast to coast and score lol... it was clearly the right thing to do.
Great to see us win a game for once. What has been put in Slater's water?
You're on to something there. There was a great camera shot (at least on the NY MSG feed) of Kovalchuk sitting next to Slater during the short break before OT trying to get the "scoring magic" off of Slater's stick blade onto his own.....
..Needless to say, it didn't seem to rub off because Kovalchuk didn't score so therefore it has to be the water .
The team should dine at Jimmy's place before the Washington game tomorrow.
