Fighting in European leagues..?

I was talking to a guy about fighting in hockey. I said it's always been a part of hockey, and always will be. He said that fighting is only a part of North American professional hockey.

Now I'm sure there are fights in European leagues, but how do the leagues handle them? Is it tolerated like it is in the NHL? Do they fight as often?

Hearafter: You raise some interesting questions. I wish I had some answers. I have seen European fights on Youtube. Try searching on Antti Pihlstrom to get started.

Fights are definitely not as tolerated as in North America, players fighting are punished with game misconduct penalties.

They still exist, though, but are not as big a part of hockey culture as in the NHL. A fight in European hockey is just seen as two players pissed off at each other, not some momentum changing or message sending event. And no one over here would keep track of who wins or loses a fight.

100% true, thoug to be honest I personally find it cooler when there is a real heat between the two players and not just when the two players agree to fight like in the NHL. It looks like this over here when players "fight":

Finnish SM-liiga is probably the closest to NA style play and so called "show fights" excist every now and then (a couple there below). I'd have to say I personally prefer spontanious fighting over show fights...

European leagues are roof that you don't necessarily need fighting in hockey. Although the later stages of play-offs show the same thing usually.

Where are Darcy Verot fights? LOL.

All Grenier fights look unspirited because he is too strong and big for others to actually do something.

Adn Sugden vs Zherdev is bullcrap fight(in fact a single punch knockdown) which happened by the order from Vityaz owners. Sugden is definately too much for KHL.

Sugden is big PoS. Just like Verot. I hope this is last season in Vityaz history.

Brandon is probably a nice guy. A big PoS is owner of Vityaz.

Funny is that Verot lately has beaten both Lyamin(cheap-attacker) and Kruchinin when they moved to other teams.

As for entertainment, Verot vs Bayev and Verot vs Boulin where pretty good.

Btw, Vityaz acquired new scrapper: Josh Gratton. That means now they have 3 heavyweights(Gratton+Brandon Sugden+Chris Simon). And that's in a league, where Darcy Verot is a legitimate toughguy. That's stupidity.

Simon was released by Vityaz about month ago. Anyway this is another stupid signing.
