That spin move would have resulted in a turnover in the NHL. It was really a dumb play. You dont make moves like that in the neutral zone in the NHL. Sick Goal. Dumb play.
Man I wish this kid was still around. I'm sick of the "no heart" argument...the kid had talent and skill. Something this team lacks or at least is too far between when it comes to Gabby and everyone else.
And here come the why didn't we bring back Zherdev threads. While we're at it, let's bring back Jason Ward, Dominic Moore, Marcel Hossa, Jed Ortmeyer, oh and if Mark McGuire can come back as a pinch hitter let's use Messier in shoot outs.
Ohhh, he led the team in points!!! OMG. The Rangers should have given him 5 years at 6 million dollars! He's is soooo uber good....look at his Youtube highlights! Never mind the fact that he pulled a Houdini in the playoffs and barely showed up down the stretch. Just the kind of guy we want around!!!
Question for all of you clamoring to bring Zherdev back: is this one goal what you're judging your decision on? Where is the rest of the video of Z dominating over in Russia? Does it exist, or are we looking at a flash of brilliance amidst an ocean of mediocrity (aka more of the same)?
Completely OT, but the game between Avangard and Vitiaz today was stopped 4 minutes into the first period because both teams didn't have enough players on the ice to keep playing... This decision came after a large giveaway of game misconducts, and a whopping 600+ penalty minutes overall!
No idea (yet) on what started all that tho. Here's the penalties summary...
Yea near the end they said how Zherdev didn't do much in the playoffs and the Ranger's decided not to give the contract that he wanted. Perhaps now we are watching this video now and regretting it.
Didn't realize so many people here spoke and understood Russian though hehe

I'm not claiming for him to come back. It's not like I miss the guy. What's done is done. However, he would add a more potent offensive punch than almost any other forward on this roster, albeit floater or not.
Like I said, Avery floats and only plays when he wants to. (4 points against Dallas, anyone?) And the rest of the lineup is filled with effort but no talent. We could use an exchange of talent for less effort.

Besides which, in the NHL you wouldn't have had 3 players over-commit at the blue line and allow him the wing uncontested...

Perhaps, but on any given night when a team is out of sync that play could have erupted on NHL ice. We've seen it time and time again with our own team--stick-checking. Don't think other NHL teams don't suffer from the same sickness time and time again.
Besides, Zherdev did those moves while he was in the NHL (or those likewise).
Get over it. Zherdev floated and didn't give a **** what was going on. He is addition by subtraction.
I agree, if anything this video further frustrates me because of the talent he can possess, his problem is showing up game to game, and comparing him to Avery is stupid. Avery's job is to forecheck, throw some hits, mix it up, you can't compare Avery to Zherdev it's like apples to oranges, neither Kotalik to Zherdev, Kotalik isn't Zherdev's replacement, Kotalik was signed to man the point on the power play, not to fill Zherdev's shoes. I'm sorry but some people need to get over Zherdev, that ship has sailed, as has Prucha, Dawes.

Never mentioned Prucha, Dawes, myself.. however. On the subject of comparing the two, or even three players... we're not comparing them by on ice play. But by on ice results.
For virtually the same salary (Avery $4m, even though we're paying him $2, Kotalik at $3, and reportedly Zherdev at $3.25), the production we'd get out of Zherdev would far surpass both Avery and Kotalik.

Yep and Zherdev is the real agitator this team needs too right?
Both Kotalik and Zherdev had the amazing ability to get me yelling at them every game. If we're comparing Zherdev and Kotalik, lets try this instead...
Gaborik>Zherdev
Prospal> Gomez
Kotalik= Naslund
Gomez, Z, and Nazzy made 14 milish, GPK, makes around 12 mil. Its a step forward IMO.
