100% agreed. Sangs got my vote.

I can't imagine that. I would've voted for Sangs ahead of Step without the WJC and I bet most people would too, whether they want to admit it or not. I bet he wouldn't get more than a couple votes in round 4. Even in round 5, you have a college kid whose only accomplishment is a little over a point per game for half a season in college vs. McD who has been named a top 50 prospect the last two times by the HF experts, at least some of whom presumably saw him a few times.

You've gotta figure that McD and Sang would've come ahead of Step, easily.

Certainly, in my mind, both were distinctly ahead. It's Step's amazing performance in the WJC that changed my mind. I am certain that this is true for most people here, even if they choose to deny it.

Stepan, he seems to have a well rounded game already with no glaring holes, and his good vision and passing could make him a good playmaker, and the Rangers lack in that department.

Add Heikkinen

Stepan did great in WJCs, yes, but that's almost exclusively against players that are younger than him. Until he puts on weight and starts really dominating in college, I'm going to go with the more known commodity.

He's the same age as most of those players.

You're right. I meant to say his age or younger. Point remains though, he has yet to really distinguish himself against experienced competition.

...and? The fact that he was fairly dominant in the WJCs is a huge thing. He was dominating against the best in the world. That tells me a lot more than anything else.

I'm not one to use the WJC as a big measuring tool, but when the performance is one like Stepan's, that means a lot.

He wasn't fairly dominant, he was absolutely dominant. It's the most dominant performance of any Ranger prospect in the 20+ years I've been watching hockey. Getting a point per game is solid. Grachev got only 5 points in 7 games and people didn't panic. If you have more than a point a game, you did great. Getting two points per game while playing solid defense is huge.

This is particularly true on the American team which isn't as talented as Canada (yes, despite being them) and didn't play in a division as easy as Sweden's.

That's what I think. I wouldn't get to giddy over him getting 8-9 points in 7 games. But getting two points per game is a special performance.

Dominating players his age that badly, while being captain and a responsible defensive player is something that should definitely raise his value in our eyes.

He also did it against the top prospects in the world......it not like it was any random bunch of kids his age playing NCAA hockey. He stepped up when he played against higher competition.

Stepan has shown he can be dominant with the best of his peers. A leader, playmaker
& intelligent hockey player. Add OchoCinco.
