Rangers Prospect Poll: #5

After a spectacular WJC performance, Derek Stepan easily won round four.

The vote for the prospect to be added to the poll was:

Chad Johnson: 13
Ryan Bourque: 3
Heineken: 3
Weise: 1
Sauer: 1

Instead of just writing "DZ" or "AA", state why you chose that particular. This would actually be a very good way to learn (and argue) about prospects. And don't forget to list who you want added to the poll in the next round. (Remember, we are using the HF standard for who's a prospect: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect)

TOP PROSPECTS

1. D Michael Del Zotto
2. C Artem Anisimov
3. LW Evgeny Grachev
4. C Derek Stepan

2008-09 U. of Wisconsin NCAA 40 9 24 33 6
2009-10 U. of Wisconsin NCAA 18 5 17 22 6

Voted for McD because I figure the HF people who are voting for the top 50 must know something. Two times on the top-50 list must mean something. That said, I am sure Sangs will win this round. It was a close call for me also because Sangs is an excellent, NHL-ready prospect.

But I'm hoping McD will be another Marc Staal. It would be amazing having two great defensive defensemen who can also rush the puck when needed.

Im going with Ryan McDonagh because Sanguinetti is an offensive defenseman and McDonagh is scouted as the closest thing to an all around first pair dman as is in our system. Sangs may be good, but on a team with MDZ and potentially Gilroy for a little while, he is somewhat superfluous.

McDonagh could be our Paul Martin.

Sanguinetti, add Sauer.

I cant believe Sanguinetti is still on the board here...just because he isn't being fast tracked, or isn't new and shiny...its ridiculous. Hes a top point producer in the AHL, hes gotten better defensively, and has produced BIG TIME at every level he has ever played in.

McDonagh was a better prospect and has always been a better prospect.

I don't. McDonagh is easily the better prospect. I like Sanguinetti, but McDonagh is just straight up better. His upside is also much higher than Sanguinetti's.

I think McDonagh is a solid prospect, I also thing McDonagh is on a team with so many SUPERB defensive and offensive prospects that flaws in his game are being masked. Either way, Sanguinetti is a helluva lot closer to being in the NHL than McDonagh. McDonagh hasnt done it yet against better competition, Sanguinetti has.

I wish Sanguinetti would get a real shot. Sorry but up for a couple of games then sent back down isn't good enough. I thought he was solid the second time called up. Unfortunately he seems to be trade bait more then anything else.

Don't post your top 10. If everyone does it, it defeats the whole point of voting by round.

Voted Sangs. He's had a really improved season at the AHL level on both sides, offense and defense. Should be a Ranger next year. Add Heiks.

Kreider. Easily the highest ceiling (granted he still has a long way to go).

Sangs. Currently 8th overall in all defensemen in points (25) while the leader has 28 points.

How does it defeat any purpose? I'm posting it and highlighting the player I'm voting for this round and where he is on my top 10.

It may be that he's not a shiny new toy, but it could also be that we have such a plethora of prospects. I like him a lot, but I haven't voted for him yet.

Sanguinetti. Add Sauer.

McDonagh is a good prospect, but he hasn't proven himself at a high level like Sanguinetti has.

Kreider could be something special, but a stellar WJC alone can't push him higher than Sangs.
