unless he's signed first, no thank you, and since we don't have any high end prospects or high draft picks kicking around, they'd be asking for Giroux or JvR, pass

I'd be interested in a deal that sends Carter out there

Thing is, other than Pronger, the Flyers have been involved in rumors for a lot of big fish since the lockout (Brad Richards, Kaberle, etc), and they never come to pass.

Carter and Hartnell for a signed Kovalchuk = spank bank

Kovalchuk-Giroux-JVR
Gagne-Richards-Briere

or some combo of those 6

If he is resigned, I would give up JVR or Giroux for him. Not both of them, but one of them. Kovalchulk has a shot at 700-800 goals in his career, and no offense to JVR or Giroux, but they probably won't put up those kinds of numbers.

Kovalchuk is my favorite player in the NHL, but no way do I give up what it's going to take to get him. You figure realistically they have to give up Giroux or JVR and Carter or Briere plus salary. I mean unless Waddell has a real chubby for a Briere Hartnell Marshall package, I don't think Holmgren should do it.

I'd rather not considering what it would cost.

I'd be comfortable betting it won't happen.

I'd love it, but it just doesn't make any sense past hockey sense and, unfortunately, that matters now.

i dont see us being in it. Hartnell plus Briere is the only way this works. with giroux/jvr being cheap the cap wouldnt work and carter for a ufa is ludacris. i would love Kovy but what we d have to send they prolly wouldnt do and they players from philly may not approve either

Hartnell Briere for Kovy

Yeah, if he's signed. Which he won't be.

Dude's going to get treated like a rental and, in turn, is worth a rental package. See Hossa, Marian, and the rest of history.

I think the Hawks make the most sense. They could do better than a rental package, have a ridiculously legit shot at the cup, and gain cap space.

It's what I like to call a win-win-win.

That's what's up on TSN right now, but there's no mention of what teams are involved, other than Waddell might be reaching out to clubs to see what's available in terms of a market for Kovalchuk. And personally, if the cost of Kovalchuk means Carter and extras, no thanks. Carter's at least signed for the next season, he has size down the middle that none of our other centers have, and it's probably going to cost at least one of JVR or Giroux as well and there's probably going to be future draft picks added in. This franchise just needs to leave things alone and quit messing around by always making deal after deal.

Kaberle was accurate though as well...he just used his NTC and denied it.

But not for lack of Flyer interest in the player or willingness to bring them in...Kaberle didn't want to leave.

Did he or did he not get traded to the Flyers?

As a Hawks fan I wouldn't be against it as we have to move Versteeg and Barker after season for picks + prospects anyway. Kovalchuk is 10x the player Versteeg is and Barker is close to being our #7 dman because of his struggles this year.

Hawks now without Bolland (Comes back after Olympic break)

Brouwer-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Versteeg-Hossa
Ladd-Madden-Byfuglien
Eager-Fraser-Kopecky

Keith-Seabrook
Campbell-Hjalmarsson
Sopel-Barker/Hendry

Huet
Niemi

Hawks with Bolland and Kovalchuk minus Versteeg and Barker going into playoffs

Kovalchuk-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Bolland-Hossa
Ladd-Madden-Byfuglien
Eager-Fraser-Brouwer
(Kopecky)

Seabrook-Keith
Campbell-Hjalmarsson
Sopel-Hendry

Huet
Niemi

I love the Hawks as they are right now but adding Kovalchuk would help our PP and give us a game breaker.

It is risky but the rewards outweigh the risks and I would rather move Barker and Versteeg for something that can help us now instead of prospecs/Picks who will be unknown's and could all bust

I'm not missing anything. Kaberle was never a Flyer. It's as simple as that. All the mitigating circumstances are moot. The reasons why are of no consequence. The fact remains, the trade was not done.

But that's not the point...you said we hadn't traded any of the players we were interested in other than Pronger. We did though, we had a deal done for Kaberle, but he's the one who stopped it. So the fact that the trade was set shows that the Flyers often go for blockbuster players like Kovalchuk.

I agree with Brindy'sNose.

You say the Flyers dont make trades for big name guys and then list Kaberle, a guy they supposedly had the deal made for except Kaberle himself canceled the trade. The Flyers would have made the move, meaning they ARE willing to make those types of moves. The Flyers did trade for Pronger, who is one of my favorite players in the NHL right now, so I am happy.
