You say the Flyers dont make trades for big name guys and then list Kaberle, a guy they supposedly had the deal made for except Kaberle himself canceled the trade. The Flyers would have made the move, meaning they ARE willing to make those types of moves. The Flyers did trade for Pronger, who is one of my favorite players in the NHL right now, so I am happy.
Yeah-but. Yeah-but. Yeah-but.

FACT: Kaberle was never traded here. End. Of. Story.

NOT END OF STORY.

You said the Flyers dont make these moves. They were willing to make the move. That's the point.

Whether or not he waived his NTC is irrelevant.

I said they're in the rumors for the big fish and they don't happen. I didn't say they're not willing to make them.

This. I'm kind of happy with how this team is. I hope for the Thrashers sake they make the playoffs so Kovalchuk stays there, but not if it means we won't making it.

edit: Would this really be a good deal for Chicago, don't they have to drop two players this coming offseason just to be able to stay under the cap and re-sign some people?

I think so, you dump your salary for next year and get a piece that could win you a cup this year before you need to dump salary. seems win win, atleast a shot i would take.

That's what's up on TSN right now, but there's no mention of what teams are involved, other than Waddell might be reaching out to clubs to see what's available in terms of a market for Kovalchuk. And personally, if the cost of Kovalchuk means Carter and extras, no thanks. Carter's at least signed for the next season, he has size down the middle that none of our other centers have, and it's probably going to cost at least one of JVR or Giroux as well and there's probably going to be future draft picks added in. This franchise just needs to leave things alone and quit messing around by always making deal after deal.
Yes but Carter's going to be up for getting resigned the same year Gagne and Giroux are, and honestly I'd prefer to have Gagne and Giroux, they'll be cheaper. As for Carter's size...he rarely uses it, so who cares.

Yeah that's a good point, I guess sometimes I oddly don't think its worth potentially losing parts of an awesome team to win a cup, but then again that's what it's all really about. I was just thinking that after dumping two guys or so to get Kovalcuk he'd just have replaced what they dumped which from my limited knowledge of the Hawks would be pretty decent players. Then after this season they'd have to lose even more guys if they want to keep Kovalchuk- but if they win the cup then that's all moot, and ultimately they could just keep him for the rest of this season and let him go regardless.

Source say the Flyers are looking for help in the net because they’re not convinced that G Ray Emery is the answer. Canadiens GM Bob Gainey asked for C Jeff Carter in return for G Jaroslav Halak before the Christmas break, but Gainey’s demands are expected to change so a deal can get done

I'm sorry...what exactly is your point? Sometimes rumored/attempted trades don't actually happen? If so...genius stuff there.

The Pronger deal alone punches a massive hole in your argument, btw.

As for Kovalchuk, salary-wise it's an almost impossible deal for this team to make...regardless of what players you want to start talking about.

I would do something like Hartnell, Giroux, Parent +prospect for Kovalchuk but I doubt that would get it done and I don't think the salaries work anyway. No to trading Carter or JVR please.

No trades, please. The team is finally playing well, I don't want anything to rock the boat.

I wouldn't trade anyone on the NHL roster for Halak. He is just as good as Emery and would not be worth getting rid of an NHL caliber player. I'd trade a marginal prospect for him, but I see no reason to do so.

Who cares if Carter is over 6' foot and doesnt use his size a lot? The dude scores goals and is a solid offensive threat.

We have tons of guys who hit and can't score, it seems so silly to ***** about one of the few guys who CAN score. At least Carter doesnt get injured and miss games like Lindros or Forsberg always did.

He's also very good on the PK, something nobody really thinks of.

Did you read the whole thread, or just skip to the end?

The whole argument was vintage mountain-out-of-molehill. Anyone who took exception to it should probably step outside and have a cigarette.

No no no no no.

This team is finally starting to get into Lavi's system (plus the bad luck has gone down), Carter has turned into a man possessed since the Olympic snub, we are 8-1-1 in our last 10, we are 1 point out of a playoff spot with 3 games in hand, and we're rumored to be making a huge, chemistry-altering deal?

No freaking thank you.

Halak I'd have some interest in, but Gainey is going to 100% want JVR or Giroux and I don't think Halak is worth that just yet particularly since we'd have to resign him and RFAs have a huge amount of leverage.

If Halak comes in and puts up a .910-.920 and leads us to the playoffs, who's to say he'll want that much less than Emery would?

Question. Who from Philly's blue line would be potential candidates for trading?

Parent/Coburn + Hartnell for an unsigned Kovalchuk + conditional 2nd.

Parent/Coburn + Hartnell + Briere for a signed Kovalchuk.

That's the extent of my offer. Since it's not going to happen, Kovalchuk never becomes a Flyer if I'm Paul Holmgren.

EDIT: Don't like it? Unfair value? Who cares? Kovalchuk will not be a Flyer.

All of this plus the fact our prospect pool is so shallow that trading Giroux or JVR (a guarantee in a Kovalchuk deal) just completely obliterates our stock of young players. It's not happening.
