Theo Fleury Ripping Flames

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=305248

Quote:
"At one hundred and eighty pounds, I finished 11th out of 56 guys at camp in the fitness test and scored a historic shootout goal in an exhibition game after being out of hockey for six years," Fleury reportedly wrote. "What does that say about the talent level in the NHL? 4 points and a plus 4 rating in four exhibition games and I get cut. What a joke! Craig Conroy goes the first 37 games of the season with zero goals. I wonder how many I would have had?

"Even with all the stupid people that run the game of hockey, it's still a great game. Go figure," added Fleury in the posting.
haha... i mean he has reason to be upset and pissed. how is it that you can do better than all those people and not get one season, one chance...of course he may have gone a bit overboard. the flames are not a bad team, they are in a playoff spot currently with 55 pts tied for 4th in the west.

I think torts would have given him a chance because a line of avery and fleury would just be lethal i think, but who will ever know.

wasn't there some statement released that if he would not be a top six player on the team, then it was agreed by both parties before the tryout that they would just go their separate ways?

i think i do remember something like that now...i was also assuming conroy was a top 6 forward, wasn't fully sure, but I just looked at the gdt for calgary and they don't have him in the lineup tonight, unless i can't read which could be true, i was thinking conroy was like higgins, just couldn't do anything this year.

yeah conroy is currently on IR with a hurt foot so he was not in the game, though i am not 100 percent sure where he exactly falls in the usual lineup.

looks like theo is just bitter about it..i read his book and he definitely is the type of person who loves to stir the pot and speak out..i think we all know that.

I'd love to give Theo a shot on this team...our top 6 could use another top 6 player besides gabby lol. I was surprised when calgary cut him after his great preseason. Then again I've always loved Fleury so maybe I'm a little biased haha

After reading Theo's book, I don't think he can handle NYC again. Ever.

I thought Theo played well enough to make the team, I think when the Flames agreed to allow him into camp they had no intention of signing him, i'm sure they had no idea how well he would play.

I was excited when I saw how well he was playing, I thought having him back in the NHL playing at a decent level would have been intresting.

unfortunately, i think you are right. He has recovered from that whole thing and gotten himself to be a better person that it could have hurt his recovery, but at the same time I bet if he talked with Torts and Sather, mainly torts, they would have kept an eye on him and made sure that didn't happen, such as with avery crossing the line.

Theo, there are 29 other teamms in the league, if they thought you could contribute without messing up their dressing room they would have called you. Maybe you have a bad cell signal!

After interviewing him, you know the guy has a passion for the game, that few have. I think now that he has gotten his act straightened out and the promotion of his book is over he really misses what he loves most playing in the NHL.

I didn't watch him in pre-season so I can't assess his play like some of you can. But compared to Aaron Voros, how bad could he be?

He has a bad track record for sure, but he is great friends with Slats, I would have given him a shot. I think he's in place now that he could handle New York without his addictions coming back.

I always like Fleury as a player. The guy was a pistol. People forget he had 200+ points in 3 seasons as a Ranger, but I guess that's forgettable when the team totally sucked.

if I was a NHL GM, I would have invited him to my camp the moment he was cut...you have to figure that he'd put more butts in the seats. He was always the type of player people pay to see play. The guy has energy and is unique, for that alone he's worth a shot.

i'm surprised he wasn't given a shot by another NHL team after his performance in pre-season. Like the poster above me said, at the least he'd put some fans in the seats.
