Rangers still interested in Post Olympic Forsberg?

I know Slats made a uncharacteristic public statement about the Rangers being interested in Forsberg earlier in the year. Said they would be watching his progress closely etc.

PF will be on the olympic team. But than what?

Depending on how he looks in the games, could he still be a late season signing for the end run.

One year deal... lets see how it goes?

I think he would have to pass through waivers.

Well, a. he has a contract now and b. Our center situation has improved as Drury is playing better, Anisimov is steadily getting more minutes and Prospal and Dubi are doing fine.

So I dont see the necessity.

not interested and I feel like Sather making a statement about interest is some sort of smokescreen to bait maybe a division rival to gain more interest, just a theory but why else go public about your interest in someone that could easily land anywhere else?

I understand that he hasn't played in the NHL in a while, and I'm completely aware of his injury history, as he's one of my all time favorite players... but saying he does nothing for this team? Do you see the amount of shooters we have, complimented by the lack of playmakers?

It's one thing to not be interested because of his health and time away from the NHL, but it's another to say he does nothing for this team when we clearly lack playmakers.

I agree. I am biased as he is one of my all time faves. He was just that good in his prime. If it had been possible, I can't see how adding Forsberg for the end of this particular season would hurt the team.

I'll be watching team Sweden because of Henke and Forsberg.

I have no interest in Forsberg because he won't make us good enough to be a Cup contender. With that in mind, I'd much rather give younger players more playing time and (possibly) more playoff experience.

we all know he must pass waivers, but its not like peter has to report to that team - in a situation similar to Shanny in NJ in sept, the contract can be terminated if the player doesnt report. If foppa says in no uncertain terms that the ONLY team he's willing to play for is NYR and he'll just stay in sweden otherwise, I don't think another team would put in a claim given the ill will that would ensue. We also didnt think that Lowe would throw a bunch of offer sheets out a few years ago either, but whatever, i think peter's already said that he's staying at modo for the year.

I don't see why exactly Forsberg would exclusively want to play for us anywhere, there are other places that would make a lot more sense. Given, there's no telling whether or not those teams would be interested.

You may have a point. Lou Lams would be doing his job to block that move, but they would be above us on the waiver anyways. If the Devils are looking at a possible 1st round vs the Rangers, they dont want Forsberg or any other help joining the Rangers.

Would Garth Snow jump on that? Probably....

Doesnt matter , its not going to happen. It would be fun for those of us who are big Forsberg fans. But its not going to happen.

I think its a terrible idea. Great way to get a worse draft pick. And for what? Probably 5 memorable PF games?

We are not cup contenders. I'd rather spend the second half of the season letting younger players develop than bring in a big distraction.
