Bolded are guys IMO we should look for come draft day. Top 3 are obvious, but if we manage another 1st rounder, Kabanov, McFarland, Toffoli and Watson might still be around the 20th pick. Although I think Niederreiter is a little high based on his WJC, I'd expect him to plateau a little and remain 10-20. I doubt we could pull that kinda pick off but if he's around he'd be a great pick up.

Why did Kabanov drop that far?!? I'm thinking most rankings I've seen up to now had him in the top five or ten.

He's been struggling with serious injury problems all season. I really wouldn't be shocked with that combining with the Russian Factor to drop him below the top 20 this year.

I think it's the injury if anything. His numbers are good but not spectacular. I'd hope the Russian factor wouldn't apply to him. He's easily the most NHL committed Russian in this draft. He switched over to the Q to adjust to the NA game and hopefully heighten his NHL stock. Interview wise he seems very intent on the NHL, something that I didn't really see in Filatov.

So much for the 10-11 point gap we once had.

We aren't getting Hall, Seguin, or Fowler

Back in November it was hard coming to terms that we just sucked. But then I got used to the idea of getting a top 3 pick.

In comes 2010, and this team goes on a 3 game winning streak. While teams like Edmonton, Columbus, Toronto continue to suck. This team is going to do what it always does. Have a great 2nd half, miss the playoffs by ending in 10th or 11th and get a middle of the pack pick.

We ( i mean Coach Mo and JR ) really think we still can make playoffs imo. Why Mo starts Ward in last 10-15 game? Why we don't give chance to Manny to play in some games? I don't understand this.

So, if we don't take Hall or Seguin, i really hope Rutherford to sign Frolov.

I really don't think that JR and MO think the playoffs are even remotely possible. To make the playoffs, we'd probably need 94 points (based on last couple of seasons). So we'd have to have 59 more points in only 37 games.

Assume 3 more OTLs for the season..so the Canes would have to go 28-6-3 in the last 37 games to have a chance at the playoffs. JR and Mo aren't that unrealistic...especially having to still play Chi, Phi, Bos (x3), Buf (x2), NJ (x2), Pit (x2), Cal, Pho..etc..

Mo is trying to win games. His job is to put the best product on the ice that is possible so Ward gives the team the best chance to win.

I'm not sold on Frolov. Definitely has skill..but seems to lack drive / focus. Kings fans are consistently complaining about this (and his coach has gotten on him a number of times). Doesn't see the fit the mold of what the Canes typically look for.

.
Agree, our hole was too deep in the first half. We basically would need to play the rest of the way as if we were on a 106-point pace for the year. We're showing we aren't as bad as we appeared, but we aren't that kind of good either.

he is awesome at the down low cycle possession game, and he is tough to get the puck away from, he could be a good linemate for staal, really. he has great hands, and gets to loose pucks well. he is obviously inconsistent, but who isnt? i think he would be a great addition to us. he is dangerous on the kill when he is used there as well. dont know whats gone wrong in la, but he needs a change i think. we should be after him and kobasew this off season. add a couple of young guys with those two and we have a pretty good young core of forwards. frolov still has some years in him.

Canes practiced at the Compuware Arena yesterday. Seguin's Whalers watched the practice and Chip had a chat with a maybe future Cane

Ok...I see your points. I'm still nervous about him and not sold..but if this happened and it worked out, it would be nice to see some skill on Staal's line (and I'd gladly eat crow).

28th, 27th, 26th, and 25th all won their games tonight. Blue Jackets beat St. Louis, Toronto beats Nashville, and Tampa Bay beats Carolina. Florida beats Atlanta.

Great news all around. If we could get an epic comeback from Edmonton, it would have been the best possible outcome for us.

Either way, staying in the Top 2 is looking really good right now based on the short returns.

Don't miss your chance to see Hall, Seguin, Fowler, and others in the CHL Top Prospects Game at 7 PM tonight. It's on NHL Network in the USA and Sportsnet in Canada. Hall and Fowler are on Team Cherry while Seguin is on Team Orr.

That was a good watch. I think in the Seguin vs. Hall debate, go with the guy who asks takes a shootout attempt with a goalie stick.

Yep, we now have a 1 point lead on the Canes.

We were just beginning to get a couple bodies back from injured reserve. But now new guys, especially on D are dropping like flies lately. Our best defensive D man Laddy Smid is the new casualty after last night.

We had our top scorer (for a number years now) and #1 goalie for a good chunk of the first half but now they are out for the season. We have two rookie goalies in net. It will probably continue to be ugly for us the rest of the way.

Tank less obviously. You accidentally score a goal late in regulation and give the lead back 39 seconds later.
