I think Werek's ceiling outweighs Gilroy's progress, especially since Gilroy seems to have stalled. He would be my next pick though.

Add Hagelin.

With Weise's recent performances, I may have to stray from my original top 20, which had him behind Byers and Bourque, for the first time and vote him on next. Bourque got added 2-3 spots too early IMO.

Gilroy. Add Byers.

Byers and Wiese are really close IMO--Wiese is a little younger and may have more of a goal scoring touch. Byers was recently made captain of the Wolfpack and is probably a little tougher. Both will be bottom liners IMO. Byers is a tad closer right now and played fairly well for us this year.

On Hagelin--a good prospect but definitely b-level. I don't see him as a top liner.

Apparently. And what's amazing is that this is despite the fact that he's coming off of a 2g 2a game (where he also had a goal disallowed). That's no mean feat in college hockey. C'mon, people!

Gilroy will win this going away, and he should...I just can't bring myself to vote for him just due to his age.

Voted Johnson, his year so far in the A has been stellar as was his play at UA. The fact that we have no goaltending at all other than him between Lundqvist and Stajcer makes the trade and his subsequent emergence huge.

Add Weise

then
Byers
Hagelin

Gilroy. Add Hagelin. I think Hagelin has a step up on Byers right now as Dane seems to be starting to plateau.

Gilroy by a mile. I can't believe Mcdonagh(sp) got 6th...[i havn't been paying much attention to this]. Is he really doing that well?

P.s - This is Hockeyfutures top 10 ranger prospects in order.
I don't know how those 4 could be ahead of MDZ.

Evgeny Grachev, C
Artem Anisimov, C
Ryan McDonagh, D
Derek Stepan, C
Michael Del Zotto, D
Bobby Sanguinetti, D
Chris Kreider, LW
Ilkka Heikkinen, D
Matt Gilroy, D
Michael Sauer, D

He's having a very good season. He has also always been a very highly regarded prospect. He was the 12th pick just a few years ago.

gilroy's 25 years old and just cracked the pro ranks for the first time. he's currently a 3rd pair dman. how is he even remotely considered a "prospect", let alone a top 10 prospect?

he shouldn't be included at all.

For the billionth time, we use a certain set of criteria. It's not some arbitrary process.

I think that really should be on the main post of this.

Anyway to expand:
Quote:
An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to
the criteria above.
Meaning until Gilroy plays his 65th game, which he would have to play every game but 11 for the rest of the season to do, then he'll still be considered a prospect.

Weise definitely has the potential to be at least a third liner. Maybe he'll get stuck on the 4th line, but he definitely has potential for more. I'd say Byers is a fairly sure bet as a 4th liner.

He's almost 24 and never scored close to a point per game in the AHL. He's just under 2 points per 3 game right now.

Weise is actually scoring a little more than Byers, he's the same size, and though not as tough, not a slouch either.

Most importantly, he's 2.5 years younger, so as a 21.5 year old, he still has a lot of time to grow whereas Byers is close to hitting what should be his prime.

I would expect Weise to be close to a point per game next year as a 22 year old next year.

calm down no need to be rude, not everyone gets a chance to read your criteria. and at the same time your criteria then maybe should be modified.

at least a good job by dubisnacks to point it out.

however its a bad rule. gilroy is no prospect. 25 year old free agents should not be considered prospects.

I don't mean to be snappy, sorry. But in every poll for the past few years, it's something that gets asked repeatedly.

As for whether the criteria should change, you're entitled to your opinion. But it 'aint happening. We use the Hockey's Future criteria for two reasons: 1) they host these forums; and 2) for the sake of uniformity. If everyone used their own criteria, nothing would make sense. So we use what is clear and well established.

You don't have to vote based off of the criteria. If you don't think Gilroy is a prospect then you don't have to vote for him. But again, using our established guidelines, he is a prospect and will be on the list.

i think in every poll we should just include this information.

Here is what constitutes a prospect, yadda yadda yadda, then we wont have to have this same exact discussion in literally every single poll.
