Again this is assuming this is the best the flyers can get for hartnell.
You're making it sound like we have some necessity to get rid of Hartnell. Why? We don't actually need to tinker with the lineup right now, and frankly Hartnell is finding a spot in the system. Yes, he's not great defensively, but he makes space for his linemates, and oddly enough (considering he's not quick and can't pass) always seems to start the rush for his line. I would have traded him a month ago because he was lost out there, but now he's found.

I'd do Hartnell and Coburn for Phaneuf and one of Bourque, Glencross, or Dawes.

Like many people have said no thank you.

Or blue line is already expensive enough. Coburn will most likely bounce back, he is just having an off year. We will be in enough trouble when JVR and Giroux need pay raises, then add trying to keep Gagne and Carter.

Since we essentially sold our future for Pronger we will be lacking cheap talent in a few years, unless we strike gold in a 3rd round or later pick.

Plus even when things are going wrong on this team, I just love watching Hartnell piss off other teams or doing some crazy antic.

Who plays in front of the net during the PP??

And how would taking ona 6.5M a year over-rated defenseman help our salary situation?

Ever notice that every time there is a player rumoured to be traded, he's always destined to go to Philly?

Why would we not give him the 10 pct raise on his contract that RFA status demands and then wait around to see if anyone gives an offer sheet.

It really is a win-win situation. We either get Coburn for 1.32M next season or someone (more likely) offers him 2M+ and we get a 1st and a 3rd round draft pick. Sign me up!
Here are the numbers for this past season:

$994,433 or below - No Compensation
$994,434 - $1,506,717 - 2010 3rd round pick
$1506,718 - $3,013,433 - 2010 2nd round pick
$3,013,433 - $4,520,150 - 2010 1st round pick, 2010 3rd round pick
$4,520,151 - $6,026,867 - 2010 1st round pick, 2010 2nd round pick, 2010 3rd round pick
$6,026,868 - $7,533,584 - 2010 1st round pick, 2011 1st round pick, 2010 2nd round pick, 2010 3rd round pick
Over $7,533,584 - 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 1st round picks.

So assuming the cap doesn't drop, a team would have to offer over 3 million for a 1st to be included. I also doubt he will get an offer sheet. Every year we all think offersheets will get thrown around, but they almost never are.

I partially blame Eklund.

I partially blame our fanbase who is used by the media because Philadelphia really does have a big hockey culture who follow hockey because of the Flyers. Actually Philadelphia has a big interest in sports in general, thus big rumors interest Philly sports fans. People interested in a story means TV ratings or hits on a website (whatever). That in turn means money for the architects of the rumor.

Or it could just be Holmgren constantly kicking the tires.

They're better off making a tinker trade where they pick up an inexpensive vet top 6 dman (Hejda, Leopold, etc.). Hartnell for Dion makes little sense for either team.

The real question is: Lisa Hartnell for Elisha Cuthbert. Do you make the trade?

I think that will go up a bit when we go back to 2 goalies, and assuming a roster player went back to Carolina, but it still won't get high enough for Whitney. We might get up to 2 million

It's amazing how many times a guy with a no trade contract can get dealt on the internet!

GM Darroll Powe could get him to waive it.

I think thats the problem, Coburn needs to hit a lot more and be more physical. I think he'll be better with that.

I thought Hatcher was supposed to impart some of that snarl in Coburn's game. Coincidence that Coburn started playing poorly when Hatcher left?

I always defended Hatch. He was a good lockerroom presence and always gave 100% even with only half a knee. Towards the end, even when he was healthy enough to play, there were too many guys with a limited skillset that could only play physical. No team needs Hatcher, Smith, and Gauthier and, in their primes, that's the order I would want them on the team.

Sometimes I wonder if good, but not great, players make the best on-ice mentors. I mean, Hatch giving advice is advice that virtually any player in the NHL would be able to use. Guys like Timonen and, especially Pronger, are freaks of nature. What does Pronger say to rookie? "Instead of doing what you are doing, kid, you should do what I do. I like to use my Hall of Fame natural talent to do X, Y, and Z."

The Flyers were in a lot of trade rumors prior to the start of Hockeybuzz, though. They have always been an active team in making moves
