I gotta disagree with lowtride view on the TSN article--one of the big money contracts needs to get moved. Seems he is oblivious to the fact that the oilers still have one of the hoghest payrolls and sit 29th over all(maybe 30th after tonight)

Has he tried to crunch the numbers to fit the players under the cap?

unless the oiler can move someone making over 3million a year--the oilers will have the same line up they have this year--minus cogliano and Pisani--with Eberle in their place

2 years in a row with only one player change for a non playoff team?

I don't know if a full out fire-sale is what I'd like to see, but it would be nice to see some of the bigger contracts of our older guys getting shipped out.

Sure, it'd be great....if you can find some team out there that wants what they bring to the table for the pricetags that they have.

Any way you slice it, it ain't lookin good.

The problem with the fire sale is not our willingness to move players but finding someone to take them and that is the problem

we cam talk about a fire sale as much as we ;ile

but finding someone to take the players is the hard part

yes, oilers need to if they want to move into full rebuild...

looking at last off-season i had the hopes this team would do very well, it had the talent, started off really good, should of had point vs calgary and win vs calgary which would of put us

7-1-1, but then injuries and stuff happened and still happening...and looking at now, signing bulin wall was a huge mistake..

but oilers need to get rid of crap load contracts/salary if they want to re-sign there young players...we got to many contracts ship them out, potulny, cogliano, grebeshkov, jfj, reddox, peckham etc...

Sell Sell Sell Rebuild Rebuild Rebuild
No Jagr No chasing after Kovalchuk
I don't get the "Only if it helps us" option, of course we would want a fire sale to help the team.

There's a lot of dead weight on this team. Basically, get anything you can get for the bad contracts even if it's a low draft pick. Cap space is priceless in the NHL right now and thanks to Lowe's overspending on third and fourth liners we're kind of screwed in that aspect.

I'm for some of our bigger contracts, ineffective vets, and redundant youth and try to replace them with good NHL calibre players. I'm 100% against trading away everyone making more than $2M or anyone over 24 and filling the roster with more rookies.

I'd move Moreau because I don't think he's worth his salary, he's no more than a 4th line winger at this point, and I think our leadership core needs a shakeup. If we can't move him, I would keep him on the team next year and let him walk after that. It's not worth a buyout, and burrying him in the minors would be a real black mark on this organization, and we can't really afford more of those.

I'd listen to offers for Pisani, but I wouldn't just give him away for nothing. My first choice would be to ride out the rest of the year, and try to re-sign him for a greatly reduced rate. I still think he can be a valuable depth player, a reliable penalty killer, and he's a tremendous locker room presence. He's exactly the kind of guy I want all these young guys learning from. At $2.5M he's not worth it, but at around $1M, he's a good deal.

I'd move Grebeshkov or Staios, but probably not both. Grebeshkov is younger with more of his career ahead of him, but Staios brings more of what we need now. Either way, we can't have our bottom pair making about $6.5M combined. There are smarter places to use that cap space. Or, if someone makes me an offer I can't refuse for Souray, maybe I don't move either and move Grebeshkov up to play with Giblert.

All of those moves could be considered a fire sale, I guess, but I'd also look at some of the following:

I'd try to find someone to take Nilsson and Brule, and pray someone has some interest in what Jacques brings to the table. Eberle and/or MPS and/or Hall/Seguin are coming next year. That's pretty much a guarantee with this management, and we can't have both of them as well as Nilsson, Brule, Cogliano, and Jacques in the lineup at the same time. Both Nilsson and Brule are having some success this year, but I don't have a lot of confidence they'll be able to keep it up long term. Both Stone and Potulny are UFAs next year, and I'm pretty sure at least one of them won't be back.

With the holes left in the roster, I'd look for effective vetrans, not more rookies, or one-dimentional players who need cherry minutes and powerplay time to be successful. So no more Comrie aquisitions, or bringing up flawed, inexperienced prospects.

That's what I want to see happen. If that's a firesale, then I want a firesale.

A guy like Horcoff we're probably stuck with but Staios, Moreau, Souray, even Gilbert are probably guys you can move.
