Well the Coyotes need a third-line forward with a clutch-wrist-shot and Pisani is the kind of player they need. A reliable penalty-killer. He had a playoff experience that Phoenix really need due to many years of playoff droughts and that franchise haven't won a playoff series for at least 20 years (including years of the Winnipeg Jets).

I'm not really worried about our Rfas, Pisanis money can go to grebs new contract. Dumping some of out older guys is obviously necessary to resign Gagner and Cogliano especially since it looks like they are about to go on their usual late season PPG streak, JFJ will be under a million. Ryan Stone is a ufa but I suspect he will be under a million. The rest I'm not really worried about.

I also think guys like moreau and staios can be traded.

I haven't read the thread but I have read the TSN story and I'm not terribly concerned unless the salary cap takes a big drop, which apparently it won't (in fact it might go about 1M up).

I don't normally do these mock lineups, but just to give an example of what I mean:

14 Forwards:
1. Horcoff - 5.5M
2. Penner - 4.25M
3. Hemsky - 4.1M
4. O'Sullivan - 2.9M
5. Pisani - 750K (my estimate)
6. Gagner - 1.85M (my estimate)
7. Brule - 1.85M (my estimate)
8. Hall - 3.75M (my estimate)
9. Eberle - 1.2M (my estimate)
10. Potulny - 1M (my estimate)
11. Stone - 750K (my estimate)
12. UFA (defensive specialist) - 1M
13. JFJ - 700K (my estimate)
14. Stortini - 700K

Total for forwards: 30.3M

7 Defensemen:

1. Visnovsky - 5.6M
2. Gilbert - 4M
3. Grebeshkov - 3.15M (my estimate)
4. Smid - 1.3M
5. Chorney - 942K
6. Peckham - 650K (my estimate)
7. Strudwick - 700K (my estimate)

Total for defensemen: 16.342

2 Goalies:

1. Khabibulin - 3.75M
2. Deslauriers - 950K (my estimate)

Total for Goalies: 4.7M
Total for 23 man roster: 51.342M

More than enough room in case I've undervalued in my estimates or in case you'd rather hold on to Cogs (which I would prefer) or even keep Staios for another year (which I would not be necessarily against).

Minor bump.

I thought this LeBrun article (stolen from BB's daily update thread - merci!!) was interesting as a counterpoint to TSN's take on the Oiler's cap trouble.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/...=lebrun_pierre

The Souray to NY speculation interested me in the context of this thread. Not only does he suggest that the rangers could possibly take on Souray for the next two year (at $4.5 a year, LeBrun is the only reporter I've correctly seen talking about Souray's go forward cap hit for a new team), but he discusses how they would do this by sending Redden to the minors for 4 YEARS. If NYRs can bury contract in the minors this, the Oilers could assuming that the money is not an obstacle for Katz).

Cap hell/cap schmell....
