I would take Horcoff+Souray for Redden. Fewer years and two guys would be easier to dump one by one.

yep and frankly im a fan of Souray, I think he would bring some much needed grit, snarl and a rocket of a shot that we desperately need from the back line.

I say continue with the soft rebuild until 2012, which in my mind is the beginning of creation.

We'll have at least 15 million coming off the books, and by that time we'll have a good idea what Grachev, AA, Stepan, McD, DZ etc are really capable of.

The key is trading away guys like Higgins and Propspal for 2nd or 3rd rounders this year.

I'd rather keep drury then buy him out.

In reality.. a buyout's saving you like 2 million..

He's worth 2 million.

Yea, we have to deal with it, better stick it out over the next 2 years & keep the expectaions low & hope Dru doesn't become a worse player (if that's even possible) than he has been this season.

Great time for Sather to pick on Edmonton. They are going to decide fairly soon who to get rid of, because they simply have no choice but to shake it up. I would bet Horcoff is high on the list of underachievers to ship out. But why would they want Redden? It's not like they are a supreme under-capitalized team who needs to get to the floor.

I also would love Horcoff+Souray for Redden. I just can't see it happening. Maybe I am missing something somewhere along the way?

Perhaps I will read the article first, which I have not <grin>

$23 million over 4 seasons. Not 2 seasons.

$6.5
$6.5

Redden received $8 million per in 08-09 and 09-10

Brashear is a 35 plus player. His cap hit counts next season if Brashear retires. Naslund wasn't a 35 plus player so his cap hit didn't count this season.

Considering the NHLPA hasn't had an executive director for the last few months, they are expected to exercise their option of extending the agreement. Two more seasons of Redden. The cap system is here to stay but there could be adjustments.

Souray is one of the few players Edmonton has which could be swapped for futures. That team has big salary cap problems with the contracts handed out by Kevin Lowe.

TSN staff compiled their thoughts on the future of the Oil last week in this article: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=306283

Read that and save yourself the time and trouble of coming up with these fantasy proposals. Edmonton isn't taking any of the players Sather is looking deal.

Riiiiiiiight. And if anyone would've told me that Montreal would've ended up with Gomez over the summer I would've told them there's no chance of that either. And plenty of people were fantasizing about getting rid of Scott.

I don't care what I read where because you simply never know what's coming and how desperate some teams are to shed salary - especially teams like Edmonton, Atlanta, Phoenix, etc...
