yeah at least Staios, Souray, and Strudwick would get in the way of a shot or pass. Not Gilbert. I have neve seen a bigger wuss play defence. I seriously can't think of a bigger wimp to play defence for the Edmonton Oilers in their 30 year history. Even Joni Pitkannen was tougher. Even Bergeron and he's a midgit.

Concussion or not, 1 good year out of 3 does not constitute letting him get a "freebie". Reload after this season? What in the hell are you talking about? Souray is prime trade bait regardless and if the opportunity to trade him presents itself, you don't even flinch.

His shot sucks this year. Everyone was afraid of him every time he shot the puck last year. Hardly the case this year.

??? Are you 10 years old? Don't have a TV where you live? Ever watched an Oilers game in your life?

Hardly worth talking about but you're getting on my nerves with the Gilbert comments! I can't believe anyone that's old enough to write can be so inept in their assessment of a player. Obviously you're blind hatred for the player keeps you from seeing reality.
Must be terrible to live that way, not being able to enjoy a hockey game because of blindness... I feel bad for you...

I knock Gilbert as much as the next guy, but the last few games he's been playing with a bit of anger throwing the body and the odd crosscheck. If he keeps that up I don't think we have any reason to complain about 77.

Gilbert has been showing more of a mean streak than Souray. And I'm still undecided if the positives outweigh the negatives on that.

Gilbert is still pretty soft for a dman, if he isn't scoring he isn't worth having in the lineup.

Ummm, I think he means Tom Gilbert. I could see somebody getting upset over Gilbert Brule being dumped on, But Tom Gilbert has looked as good as a can of smashed a**holes.

An overdeveloped man-crush will skew your perception of a player as well.

They mentioned on satelite hotstove that Turco is up for grabs
so would you do a Souray for Turco swap. Get rid of Habby in the off season and let DD and JDD sort themself out as the backup.

Souray deserves as much criticism as everyone else on this team, but his bad play is limited to this season. It's the guys who have been sucking for 3 seasons now I think people are rightfully going after first.
Souray has missed one season with injury, was great in one and is, along with the rest of the team, sucking hind teat this year (thanks in part to the injury, but also because he was never that great to begin with). To me, one good year out of three isn't enough for to cover his bet.

The concussion, because he's far from the Oilers biggest issue, but mainly I'd say it's a function of most fans just not giving a turd anymore.

I haven't watched a minute of Oilers hockey in 2010.

With his waiving his no trade clause I reckon the guy would like to be traded. I am disappointed though, I understand the season has been difficult, but I was hoping he would at least seem like he cared. I applaud him for talking to the media though.
Then again maybe the locker room is fractious like we heard in the past and he just wants out.

Souray is what he is, although his defense has gotten a bit better he still shouldn't be getting the tough minutes that he does. This isn't his fault though, this is something that management should've adressed a long time ago. Just imagine how much better our offensive d-men would look, if they were used just as offensive d-men. Lubo is a perfect example, plays no PK, plays easy opposition and is having a great year.

Good one Quinn - we have how many defensemen with offensive ability?

What are you, new?

I can totally see the headlines the day after the draft. "Oilers Draft Hall, Rebuild Over!"

They have till 2012 to show the cornerstones of our forwards (Hemsky, Penner) that they're not gonna suck. They'll attempt to be competitive to try and keep them in the fold. If that doesn't work out (and I doubt it will), they'll trade them at the 2012 deadline and we'll be back into the rebuild.

Watch. You'll see. They're gonna buoy the dive after this season.

I standby my opinion of Tom Gilbert. I have been watching hockey probably longer than you have been alive and he is the biggest wimp of a defenceman I have ever seen in an Edmonton Oilers uniform. People like you get on my nerves who can't see it. He is softer than butter, constantly out of position, gives about 50%, never lays out to block shots, never fights or even mixes it up at all, and is a giveaway king.... and I guarantee more people here feel the way I do.

But he is cute and good at Guitar Hero.
wake up. $4 million for that piece of ****. Strudwick brings more.

Yeah, Poti was the first name that came into my mind as well. I think the Oilers should make a mental note to stay away from American defencemen named "Tom" from now on...
