Seriously you guys, there's no such thing as a website that provides reliable insider information on hockey.

Just go to TSN.ca. You won't find better legitimate coverage, and it's free.

Haha oh yeah I agree I don't have insider I have a friend that does and if I see somethign that piques my interest (like the Whitney headline) I ask him to look at it for me. They just don't cover hockey enough. I think that it has a lot to do with the fact that they don't have a TV contract with the NHL. But thats just how I feel. Anyway I never really said what I'd give up for Whitney (probably a conditional pick based on our playoff performance, 2nd rounder if we make the Cup Finals, 3rd rounder if we don't, and a guy like Pierro-Zabotel or Grant). He would be very very useful on the Pens on a line with Guerin and Crosby.

as long as we are contenders we are going to be buyers. The other options are hold tough and hope that this team can get it done or to become sellers. I don't like doing nothing, and I like selling talent for prospects even less.

Seriously any one of us on this board could start a rumor site. A "source told me this", "theres a strong chance this could happen", "team xxx is looking for xxx".

The only thing I will say about this is Whitney is a much better idea than Ponikarovsky.

That said, I don't want to get into a bidding war for any rental this time around.

This team has a very weak farm system and we are absolutely reliant on it to help resolve the continuous winger issue so to sell off a 2nd round pick which is a high quality prospect and whatever other mystery prospects of ours for someone who most likely wont be on our roster next fall wouldnt be an extremely smart move, especially after 3 years of doing that. It's fine if it's a one time thing but this has started to become habit.
Pittsburgh has a unique cap structure, acquiring deadline/mid-season talent is likely to be the norm until the day one of Crosby/Malkin/Staal leaves the team. It could also give us a leg-up in re-signing a guy like Whitney, for example, in the off-season.

Top 9:

Kunitz - Crosby - Guerin
Fedotenko - Malkin - Whitney
Cooke - Staal - Kennedy

That looks like an extremely balanced lineup heading into the home-stretch and playoffs. Unlike last year, however, I think Shero may have to focus on shoring up the D if injuries/poor play continues and that could throw a wrench into acquiring a guy like Whitney with his $3M+ cap hit.

Screw that. If we're getting Whitney, it's so that we finally don't have to see No. 26's carcas out there in the top six.

Besides, Whitney's a left-winger. And 26 sucks even more as a RW.

I'd love Whitney and Jokinen. Canes will be selling big time, i'm sure they wouldn't mind an easier crack at Hall either. Have Jokinen for another year at 1.7 and try and re-sign Whitney in the off-season. He'd be the best aging veteran winger Shero has signed in awhile.

Think about who we are talking about, If it will get him money. Everyone in hockey knows what e# stands for. Start up a hockey sight, Rumor/informational, and have a fictitious name starting with e an try to do a e# for a guide to the level of your info.

I bet he hits you up for it and makes you stop legally.

If Shero does decide to pull the trigger on a deal for Whitney or anyone else for that matter, I really hope Tangradi, Caputi, Despres, or Veilleux are not one the prospects to go. Just a random thought.

I'm pretty sure he'd definitely be keeping Tangradi and Despres probably Caputi to. I doubt we see Veilleux traded with his injury I doubt he has much value.

I'd like to see us figure out our Powerplay and then work on the roster.
