You don't rub it in the goalie's face after a stinker like that. Take your good fortune and move on.

the first goal should have never happened, Klein with a terrible attempt to clear the zone early in that play. I hate watching him take the ice.

Leggy and Erat trying to give the game away early. Terrible start.

Leafs are 30th in the league in PK and still nothing going for us yet.

At least it is early

We should have started Ellis. He gives this team some energy and he was coming off a shutout.

I know it sounds silly to say something about it after the fact, but that was my first thought when I saw this post this afternoon.

That was a huge save. It started a little offense as well.

It was working relatively well and made sense, so naturally, the coaching staff put a stop to it.

well at least The Cube gave us a few good hits to cheer about there for a second until Goc decided he needed a rest in the penalty box

Well great, a chance to give the Leafs a 4-0 lead in the first.

disappointment is such an understatment. what a freakin sad start to a big game.

How many straight home games does that make that we have come out with that kind of effort in the first?

I don't blame the staff. Sitting Ellis at the end of a road trip and starting the guy who had more rest is reasonable. Rinne has shown some signs of making bigger saves recently, so the coaches "had a hunch". Or maybe they don't fully trust Ellis long term and want to give Rinne every chance to grab the starter role.

Either way. I used to trust Rinne more. But more recently I feel better about Ellis. I hope Ellis begins to get 2/3 of the starts and grabs the job. Rinne is not stepping up when we need him.

Still, that was a team stinkage in the first period, not just Rinne. But if Rinne makes just one save it's only 2-0 and we have a chance.

Come on Legwand! I was stupid enough to say you were going to play really well and continue to score, over on the main board. You're making me look bad! I don't think -2 +/- per period is worth that 4+ million contract talked about in the other thread...

I'm tired of this team coming out much stronger in the opening period on the road then at home. The home crowd deserves better first period efforts.

A team sinkage! are you kidding me. Lets look at who was on the ice for the goals.

Legwand + Erat: This has been a great combo the past 2 seasons! lmao
Hamhuis + Klein: These 2 have been awesome this year as well!

Oh yeah and the 3rd goal was on a change from guess who? Leggy, Erat line.

While noone played well. Noone played even remotely bad as the 4 aforementioned players. And Trotz gets some blame too for re-uniting / keeping together these pairs.

P.S. those we're some horribly soft goals. Rinne should be back seat untill Danny has a bad game now.

I agree. I was trying to be nice to Rinne when I said "team". I mean two of the goals were odd man attacks I believe.

It was indeed Rinne and some pairings the fan base knows are crap but Trotz and Peterson don't.

It's been gone for two years now. Trotz actually said, "I made the rule, I can end the rule..." way back when...

Yea, upsetting but much rather see a 1st period collapse than one in the 2nd (our usual), or the 3rd. This reminds me of the beginning of the season when we were losing them back to back to back. Seemed like nothing was working and every time the other team had the puck in our zone you just knew they were going to score. The Preds probably thought this would be an easy W and just got a major wakeup call.

Every time I see Erat + Legwand I just don't get it. This is not a statistical improbability we have here. It's a crap pairing. The same with Hammer and Klein.

It's too long since the start of the season for Trotz to remember the six game losing streak and the blowout losses I guess.

Not sure what part of Erat going on a tear with other linemates is so hard to remember though.

Ellis! If we started with him, things may have been different.

Yep! Danny!

I'll use a bad pun on the deer theme and say Ellis is bucking up...

Dan the man. He's really trying to win this for us. And you know whats sad is I'm sitting here thinking who can put a goal in for us down 3-0. And Horny, Jones and Goc are what I'm thinking which is so sad when you think paycheck wise. We rely way too much on our low liners. This is a game our Big names need to come back and win for us. It's the damn Make-me-laughs.
