They weren't going to make the playoffs all season, I'm not sure why you're expecting them to. Especially when they move a lot of their players at the deadline who'll command a fairly decent market for their services.

Put me on the confused/frustrated to see Earl go, band-wagon. Really liked what he brought on a daily basis.

Good ridence to Sykora, though.

I am not "expecting" the Wild to do anything. They aren't going to make the playoffs.

But keeping only 12 forwards on the roster WHILE sending down your best call-up is odd. There is no reason for it unless there is some more players coming in from somewhere.

First year GM Fletcher can't sit pat. The move won't be anything major, and it will probably continue along of the lines of Latendresse and Kobasew - players who fit Richard's system more than what Fletcher was left with (Bouchard, Miettinen, Belanger, Bruno, and Nolan).

Sounds like Sykora will either be picked up by another team or go to the KHL/Europe.

Wouldn't mind Sykora on Toronto...play with Kessel, get more goal scoring..

Hope Colorado takes Sykora after all their winger injuries (Hejduk, Svatos, Jones).

after last night, wouldn't Calgary be a logical spot for Sykora to end up? They NEEEED scoring and, with Detroit getting healthy, could easily miss the playoffs with their current roster.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see him not picked up. I can't see him being a top six winger on a Western Conference team...maybe on a team like the Leafs, but it needs to be a run-and-gun offense with a lenient head coach.

Brunette-Koivu-Miettinen
Nolan-Belanger-Clutterbuck
Havlat-Brodziak-Latendresse
Earl/Sheppard-Ebbett-Boogaard

Zidlicky-Zanon
Burns-Schultz
Hnidy-Johnsson
Scott

That way we only have one of Boogaard and Scott playing or neither, and not both at the same time.

I can't see anybody coming in right now, especially with Burns coming back there is NO cap room. With Burns already practicing they have said it before, when he says he is ready he'll play and that will be soon, he doesn't want to sit out any longer. Just because Earl got put on waivers doesn't mean he is going to be sent down either. Because he played 10 games and needs waivers they probably thought it was a good time to put him on waivers because maybe in the future some team would actually maybe pick him up when they have to send him down if maybe a Bouchard/Kobasew comes back which is unlikely. If he clears now he won't need it in the future. I can't see him being picked up by a team right now so mine as well send him through the waiver wire now.

looks like Minny's free Sykora went a little to far to free him, or did it?

I also can't imagine Sykora pouting and whining in the locker room and his agent complaining about his lack of playing time and spot in the lineup was making him any friends.

Rags, NYI, Devils (Elias), Col, Cal, Anaheim and more may be interested in Sykora imo.

when do waivers for this end, is it a 24 hour thing or does each team have to pass regardless of time frame?

The first two teams I thought of were:

1) Ottawa - the only other team I remember actually being interested in signing Sykora back in July
2) Montreal - could be a good fit on the 2nd line with Andrei Kostityn out ~6 weeks.

Sykora doesn't strike me as a Sacco type player. I think Sykora would be in Sacco's doghouse before too long.

I suppose it's worth the minimal risk. We could use some scoring from the left side (errr I guess right side too now that Hejduk's out).

I can't see Toronto picking up Sykora.

They're cap-screwed right now and can't afford him even at such a low cost. Besides, they don't another soft scoring winger who can't seem to score anymore. Plus, they may not even have any contract slots open.

Sykora has flat out sucked this season. Dont know if its the injuries or something else but for now it seems like his career is going down big time.

Not going to lie.
I wouldn't mind the Blues taking a look at him. I mean, if he doesn't work out, just waive him again.
But for a team that is lacking goal scoring. Put him in and see if he can spark something.

With Selanne, Koivu, and Lupul all out for extended periods of time, I could see Bob Murray taking a chance on Sykora.

Looks like Sykora's going to Europe. In his contract he had a European assignment clause if things didn't work out. It's expected that he will exercise that.

Russo had the info.

again: it wasn't anyone in Minny starting the "free Sykora" crap. I think it was his agent. or some lonely fan in pitt.
maybe his mom?

a minny reporter just reported on it--he didn't start it.
