Habs need a winger, whereas the 3 best forwards in Hamilton are C (Trotter, Desharnais ???, Maxwell). Darche is the best winger, statistically.

Trotter, Desharnais and Maxwell can all play wing as well. If I'm not mistaken, they all played wing for us in the pre-season. And Maxwell did in his stint with us last season.

I'm just curious to see who sits. Logic would indicate that D'Agostini is the odd man out but I just don't think Darche is here to play on the top 2 lines.

Bergeron?

Mathieu Darche
Ht: 6-1
Wt: 210-220

… can he play a physical game?

According to Christine Roger from corussports.com, today's combinations were:

Benoît Pouliot - Scott Gomez - Brian Gionta
Michael Cammalleri - Tomas Plekanec - Matt D'Agostini (big Darche here?)
Travis Moen - Maxim Lapierre - Max Pacioretty
Marc-André Bergeron - Glen Metropolit - Georges Laraque
Andrei Markov - Josh Gorges
Jaroslav Spacek - Roman Hamrlik
Hall Gil - Ryan O'Byrne

If Martin goes with:

D'Agostini out + Darche in
More ice-time to Lapierre, less to Metropolit
Mara out and O'Byrne in

… it would give us more size and slightly more grits. That would be a small step in the right direction imo!

I would have gone with Trotter by a mile but we'll see what Darche can do.

So this means Pouliot practised today? I thought maybe he was injured...

If D'Agostini is the one taking a seat, then in all likelyhood, Lapierre will take his spot on RW next to Pleks & Cammy (Martin actually put that line together at the end of each period the last 2 games) and Darche will take his spot between Bergy and Laraque.

He's got full-season NHL experience, he had 30 goals in the AHL last year and 16 in 32 games this year, he's 6'1" 210 pounds... sure is worth a try!

Nice. I'd go;

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Darche
Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta
Pacioretty - Metropolit - D'Agostini
Bergeron - Lapierre - Moen
