i have an idea, if you guys know that his proposals are always bogus, why do you keep using him as a refernce here on HF? Just stop using him as a reference....i dont know. doesnt seem that hard to figure out.

What's funny is the Habs never made a play for Selanne while Koivu was a Hab,now that Saku signed in Anaheim we are interested in Teemu

Well he was a FA after he won the cup,if Koivu wanted him here and Gainey wanted him that bad don't you think they would have made it happen?

Yes, and everyone told you how crazy/wrong you are the last time you said it.

Selanne publically stated he wouldn't come to Montreal because Montreal is Saku's team and Anaheim was his. That might have had something to do with it.

Or it's entirely possible we did make a play for him and we just never heard of it.

Kovalchuk is very much a superstar.

At this point, the only forwards I would consider better than him are Ovechkin and Crosby. Maybe Malkin as well.

I don't remember what topic you said it in but I remember more than one person saying exactly what I just did (either "you're crazy" or "you're wrong").

Sheldon Souray + Andrew Cogliano

To Edmonton:

In regards to Kovalchuk, Selanne and Hannan, I don't see it happening and I don't want to pay Kovalchuk the money he wants and Selanne won't come here is asked!

Only if we ship out Souray just as soon, please.

Yes from Montreal, No from Atlanta.

Kovalchuck
for
A.kost
S.Kost
D.Kristo or L. Leblanc
1st 2010
maybe another player? Max Pac, D'ags, Lapierre, O'byrne,?

Montreal will have to try and dump more salary by way of trades to get under cap if Kovalchuk resigns. Maybe Atlanta signs and trades him to Montreal.

As long as Markov, Cammalleri, Gionta, Subban, Leblanc, Kristo, Pacioretty, Pouliot, Weber and our 1st isn't included, I could live with pretty much anything. We should build around those guys for next year.

I don't want to give up anything for 3 months of Kovalchuk in the position we are. If Gainey wants to make a deal happen, it better be some trade to pick up a low-value role-player (ala Schneider last year), some trade to pick-up an underrated young player (ala Pouliot/Cogliano), or some trade to get a draft pick or two.

I've been very harsh to Pacioretty, but can you please wait until he's older to make such a statement? Right now he's not where he should be, he's not the one wrong in this story. It's not his fault if the organization makes him play in the wrong league.

The Habs won't trade prospects for rentals now that their 2 points from a playoff spot and 2 points from a Lottery pick.

I know it's HF and poster overrate the value of prospect, but tell me why you wouldn't trade one or two of these guys for a already prove star or superstar in this league??

building around Kristo or Leblanc we don't even know if these guys will be able to be top6 in the NHL

True and I have no problem dealing a great prospect however not for a "rental".The star must be signed long term

I would do this deal if there is a sign and trade or we get a commitment froom Kovalchuk for at least 3 seasons

YAAA! Let's deal our future building blocks for 3 months of a guy who might never play for us afterward, when we don't even know if we actually have the team to win one single round in the playoffs.

I'm all against tanking and giving up, but you've got to stay clever and not lose your senses... it would be stupid to get rental players if we're out of the playoffs picture. And from my point of view, after this weekend's two games, I say it's not far-fetched to consider being sellers...

I would make that deal even if we didn't have a deal with Kovalchuk. It frees over $8MM in cap space and gives us flexiblity to resign our own players and replace the traded ones liek A. Kosty with a UFA lsuch as Frolov or Marleau.
