I'm not really onboard with the move, but I wouldn't mind it. If anything it would put some pressure on guys like Lisin and Kotalik to get their act together. We can always waive Christensen and/or Sykora and send them to Hartford and it wouldn't be a big deal.
So ya think we get lucky with two waiver pickups? What are the odds?

Pressure on Kotalik & Lisin? Like there hasn't been enough already? What does that say about this team and its coach if this is the kind of move that gets guys going?

Wouldn't be a big deal? Tell that to the players....

Where does Sykora fit? He is a sniper(an old one). The problem with this team is playmaking, he doesnt fit and he definitely wouldnt fit in on the checking lines. I say pass, let a player like Lisin work through his problems and learn as he goes because there is potential there.

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. So this year we'd be cool.

Lisin and Kotalik have known at worst they're going to be a healthy scratch for a few games.

Who was going to take their spot long term? PAP? Byers?

The odds are pretty slim, but it's not like it'd be a high risk move. I'm not saying Sykora is close to being the answer to our problems, but at this point what've you got to lose?

there's no way i'd put this guy on the ice over christensen right now. sykora might be the most streaky forward i've ever seen on a regular basis, and the last 2+ ears that streak has been to be a healthy scratch. avoid plz

Did he clear? I'd be surprised if the Bruins didn't take a look at him.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm 50/50 on this I could say pass & be done with it but i'm intrested. We have seen guys get thrown on the scrap heap like Reechi for example he was done & found new life. That was 2 years ago.

I think what's stoping me from really wanting him is that we don't have the playmaking center or opposite winger he needs to be succesful.

Actually had mild interest in Sykora.

I liked him a lot actually when he came to the Rangers at the trade deadline in the 2005-2006 season.

He scored 20+ every year of his career.

Could be that he really needs a change of scenery. He scored 25 goals last year.

Off the books after this season. Only 1.6 cap hit.

It really could not have hurt to give him a look.

Rangers can't take on a contract greater than $1,404,977 unless they shed salary and, of course, demoting Brashear won't do that.

I'll take my chances with Kotalik, Christensen and Lisin.

Actually this year it would come off the books:

of a multi-year SPC which was
signed when the Player was age 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to
the League Year in which the SPC is to be effective), regardless of
whether, or where, the Player is playing, except to the extent the
Player is playing under his SPC in the minor leagues, in which
case only the Player Salary and Bonuses in excess of $100,000
shall count towards the calculation of Actual Club Salary; plus

I would have, too.

It's a way to add depth without trading away assets.

The cap hit is low enough, and he is a UFA.

The LAST thing we need is another shootout "specialist". Isnt there bad blood between him and Sather anyway?

With the help of agent Allan Walsh, General Manager Chuck Fletcher is trying to trade Sykora and appeared to be getting closer Wednesday.

"I'll take the next couple days and explore what trade options may be," Fletcher said. "The first priority will be to try to trade him. If that doesn't happen, there are other options."

In today's salary-cap world, nobody was willing to take Sykora off waivers. A handful of teams would take Sykora but they want the Wild to take a player back in return. Fletcher is willing if it makes sense. "Just because a player isn't taken off waivers doesn't mean nobody wants him," Fletcher said.

Minnesota has money coming off the books after this season. Ales Kotalik would be a good fit in Todd Richards's system. Very similar to Buffalo's system.

Would include Michael Sauer to dump Kotalik's contract for Sykora's expiring contract. Sauer is a Minnesota boy and the Wild needs some younger D ready to step into the lineup. Tyler Cuma,Marco Scandella and Nick Leddy are not ready. Nick Schultz,Brent Burns and Greg Zanon are their only signed D for next season.
