Just wanted to let everybody know, theres big talk of the deal being finalzed as we speak

If this is true, will be announced tommorow

edit : I tried to add the rumour prefix... but didnt work.... I'm not saying at all that this is a DONE deal.... just very good "sources" passing it on to me

No. Keeping Halak will win us more games than getting Hartnell and Sergei in 5 years >>>> Hartnell in 5 years.

And his hair is fugly.

Why would we want to take on Hartnell's contract?

Hartnell would bring some much needed toughness into the lineup. The guy is big, tough, mean, and a true power forward.

He scored 30-30 last year. Let's not forget. He's not having a great season this year but he'd really add some character to the lineup.

What would you rather get in return.

a 2nd round pick

Add a little more to Halak and get an overpaid small forward
Add a little and get a slightly overpaid, dumb, but physical forward ?

Chfans is terrible, so is that bigras guy. El Cloun, cause that's what he is.

if any team in the NHL can use more toughness upfront MONTREAL can ,its painfully obvious .

only way that seems possible is if another deal is in the works to unload a contract or two (mara? metro? those would be the easiest)

otherwise, it would put us right on the cap threshold (4.2 season cap hit coming in vs ~1.2 going out, with injuries and the ~2.3 cap space we had, it might fit, but it would be tight)

also, for next year, it would make things very difficult without unloading other contracts.

but as far as a straight up deal, it's not terrible.

I'd hate to give up on S.Kost so early, because he could be a good one, but from a roster makeup pov, Hartnell brings the kind of physical presence that can play in the top 6 that we sorely lack (mind you, he is prone to the bad penalties, so there is a risk of him quickly becoming a lighting rod for criticism if he doesn't produce right away).

losing Halak is pretty much inevitable, and getting an established vet that fills such a big hole is a pretty decent return... better than a 2nd round pick, or an average prospect...

Well Ottawa did it with Schubert a few years back.

You never know, maybe if the Canadiens coaches try it enough times we'll have a Dustin Byfuglien in our hands

We should do it for everyone. Forwards and D. Maybe get a Brent Burns out of it too.

D'Agostini needs more time to get his awesome wrist shot off. Maybe he's the next inverse M-A Bergeron?
