I actually think we are playing very physical tonight and everyone is stepping up to the challenge that the Flyers are bringin upon us. Only thing is that we are a much smaller team and are losing every fight. This team is getting tougher IMO.
We did just fine tonight. Aside from that bum Carcillo dropping them with Gabby - none of the flyers won a fight. We hit them and Avery had some good ones.
We weren't nearly as bullied as some would think in this thread.
Carcillo and Orr would be awesome except Carcillo wouldn't have fought Orr - unless he wanted Lappierre to be mistaken as his cousin.
I agree though, Girardi needed to jump Carcillo somethin fierce on that Gabby fight.
as a whole they need to get tougher. on all of the lines. one goon on the 4th isnt enough to take liberties out there against other teams good players.

They won all the fights? Avery got destroyed by the girl that was a face mask and Voros did nothing in his fight. This team was completely intimidated tonight.

I don't agree with destroyed. The team was willing and stood up to the Flyers. The problem is this team won't win to many battles in the corner or infront of the net. We don't have the size or the snarl to get it done. We don't have anyone thats going to consistently crash the net and score the ugly goals. Rarely happens with this team. In other words this team doesn't have the personnel to score goals in the tough areas of the ice.
If the team isn't going to have toughness up and down the offensive lineup, then they better have at least 1-2 defensemen who can deliver a bonecrushing hit and drop the gloves. The Blues have guys such as Polak and Jackman, the Flyers have Pronger and Tollefson.
The defenseman on this team are really soft. When's the last time Staal or Girardi dropped the gloves? When's the last time one of our defenseman delivered a huge hit?

Actually I forgot that one and the hand goes to Krusty the clown, the linesman got in too early on that one I think.
Voros did as much as Asham, in fact Voros was much more active.
This thread is hilarious, because we got out played we were intimidated. We were throwing hits we just couldn't set up in the zone. Intimidated players don't almost climb the penalty box partition yappin at the other players.
Sky is falling sky is falling!!!! Zomgggg we needz Orr Twist and Crowder!!!!@E!@# when we play flyers!!!!

Probably have to say Del Zotto..forgot the game, but he was hitting everything
There's also the mental part to take into consideration IMO. You just can't line up the goons. Are our guys mentally tough? Mentally prepared? Ready to go to war? I have some doubts, and the insconsistency we've seen the whole year tend to show this. Are they ready to commit themselves night in and night out? The physical aspect is important obvisouly, but the mental part is as much important. This team needs to get tougher as a whole, adding a couple of goons in the bottom 6 will not make the 17 others tougher...
you need to be tough, and have skill. Flyers are probably the best combination of size, skill, grit, offense, and defense in the NHL. if they could get their goaltending situation resolved, theyd be the best team in the NHL.

He has the willingness to hit, that's for sure, but his size and frame aren't big enough yet as to where his hits are really going to intimidate anyone.
It's not the quantity of hits, it's the quality of hits that matters. Phaneuf has less hits than Del Zotto but he's far more effective at it.
3 fights in 158 career games....eh, i don't think so
Obviously he wasn't known for his fighting....How many times have you seen players stick up for there teammates and stars (Gilroy in Tampa this year). What he was saying it doesn't matter what type of player you are, you have to step in and protect your superstar. You could here it in his voice if he was on the ice, he would have done something.

Orr: Worth every cent of the $1 million. Total stupidity. Esp in this division.
The worse thing is, and Carcillo knew this, noone was on that ice that would trade punches outside of Dubi (who is not the best at it, but would have done much better than Gabby)
At any point after, Carcillo would have ran from Orr if he was there. But Orr would have run Richards (Girardi was in his face though)
That time Jagr got run and Orr immediately went after Ovy - that was awesome.
id so much rather have a top 3 line player that can fight instead of a 4th line goon that can't play.

This. This is why I wanted Orpik two years ago. This is why I wanted Neil this past offseason. This is why I would love for the Rangers to someday pry Lucic away from Boston (good luck to us). This is why I still hold out hope for Doyle to get his **** together and become a real prospect.

Please.
Intimidated players get shut out because they cant get to the net
Intimidated players stand 5 feet away while their star is getting punched
Intimidated players do nothing when Asham pushed your goalie right in front of you
