I'm all against tanking and giving up, but you've got to stay clever and not lose your senses... it would be stupid to get rental players if we're out of the playoffs picture. And from my point of view, after this weekend's two games, I say it's not far-fetched to consider being sellers...
I'm not talking about a rental, no way Bob trade for a rental we are not contender this year. I'm just saying I have no problem with trading prospects for a already proving star in this league,

and even if we lose the next 3 games we will still be in PO picture

Is that even enough? Hypothetically, if we didn't sign him after giving all that then we're screwed...but it wont happen anyway.

LOL, so if Kovy doesnt resign, and Habs miss the playoffs even with him in the lineup, fans are going to burn down the Bell Centre.

Look I agree when people say Max Pacioretty sucks right now but to say he's a bust... CMON dude he's the youngest player in the team he's got aloooot of time to develop and he has a long career ahead of him. Jesus christ just because the kid didnt get here and score 10 goals. keep in mind who he plays with, it also plays a factor and once again he'S FREAKING YOUNG

that is overpaying if you compare with what they got in for hossa. Don't forget a player with no contract, even if his name is kovalchuck, will have a much lesser value...

I don't want to give up anything for 3 months of Kovalchuk in the position we are. If Gainey wants to make a deal happen, it better be some trade to pick up a low-value role-player (ala Schneider last year), some trade to pick-up an underrated young player (ala Pouliot/Cogliano), or some trade to get a draft pick or two.
i agree with your list of untouchable building blocks and important vets for habs

On Halak....

I am told the Halak will be the starter tonight for the Canadiens, and that there is a deal that the Habs are "seriously" considering. My source in Montreal added, "A backup would be coming back as part of the package, but this very well could be one of, if not Halak's final game as a Hab."
To Dallas:

Jaroslav Halak

To Montreal:

Alex Auld + Fabian Brunnstrom

I believe Canadians at this time have no one that is untouchable.. heck we are almost in the lottery for the draft.

however they do have a few that they want to keep and I do think Patches is one of them. HE IS BASICALLY A ROOKIE and is taking time to develop however he is strong, big and is showing signs that he is going to be a good player. With time he will only get better.

the one I think he may have wrong is Price. I am not saying he is being shopped however I think if someone presented an insane package for him they would consider it.

No way in a million years Kovalchuk ends up here AND signs a contract with us, we don't have the cap space anyways but just for fun that would be the price to get him (with Kovy agreeing to a contract) IMO:

1st 2010
1st 2011
Subban
Kristo

I have no contacts but if there's one rumor I could have started years ago was the one about Halak leaving. Then, once Halak said what he said, anybody could have starter to mention how the "rumors" are heating up....

Then anybody with a brain, who notices that the Habs crowd is starting to prefer the underdog to Price and are almost booing him now, knows that Gainey cannot tolerate this duo for a long time. One of them has to move. And clearly Gainey believes more in Price than he believes in himself. So Halak will be on the move.

So no need to be Eklund to say how it "might" be Halak's final game or "one" of his last games....just in case he plays another 30 before being traded....

Change Bruunstrom by Ott... We need more of a good energy 3rd liner.

Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta
Cammalleri - Plekanec - A.Kostitsyn
Ott - Lapierre - Moen
Pacioretty - Metropolit - S.Kostitsyn
D'Agostini - Laraque*
