Is Pitkanen really on the 3rd pairing? What a disappointment he turned out to be- at least the Flyers only gave up Fedotenko to get him.

Their forwards don't look all that bad even with Cole and Ruutu out of the lineup but wow that defense looks like crap.

The Flyers' W-L-T-OTL record against the Carolina Hurricanes is 29-7-7-4 with records of 14-3-3-3 at home and 15-4-4-1 away.
Domination.

That was the most recent listing on Yahoo's sports page but it changed from the prior game where he was on a higher pairing. A Canes' blog lists it this way:

http://www.canescountry.com/

Quote:
Staal, Whitney, Jokinen
Cullen, Kostopoulos, Samsonov
Sutter, Tlusty, LaRose
Brind'Amour, Yelle, Dwyer

The defensemen will be Pitkanen, Gleason, Alberts, Wards, Carson, and Wallin.

There are no easy wins. Our boys better show up and play like they mean it or they'll get surprised.

Pitkanen is leading the team (and the league) in average time on ice at 27:05/game. He hasn't been on the third pairing at any point of the season.

Go Flyers! Help the Hurricanes get a higher pick!

If they are focused it wont be. Glad emery is starting. Hope he goes tomorrow as well. Dont want to see leighton against the pens. They played one of their best games of the year thursday. The inconsistencies need to stop. follow that up with another strong game. No excuse not to come out like a pack of wolves. Def no excuse not to win.

I hope so, wouldn't mind watching another beatdown

Btw, this game will start in less than 3 hours, and tomorrow the Pens game will start at 12:30pm. What is the NHL thinking about? People are not out of their beds yet

It has to do with the playoff race, which is already pretty tough. These 2 points are extremely important, and the coach wants to go with the most reliable goalie.

Flyers have to start off strong in this one. Playing the worst team in the NHL the day before a nationally televised game against the Pens could spell disaster, but I have faith that Lavi will properly motivate the team.

Gormley has an article about Brind'Amour...

http://www.courierpostonline.com/art...rs-days-fondly

Quote:
Ten years ago today, Rod Brind'Amour was dealt by the Flyers to the Carolina Hurricanes in one of the most controversial trades in team history.

Today, at age 39, Brind'Amour returns to Philadelphia as a beaten-down fourth-line forward who on Wednesday relinquished his captaincy to teammate Eric Staal.

Although a decade has passed since he last wore a Flyers uniform, Brind'Amour can still recall the pain he felt when he was dealt to Carolina for Keith Primeau on Jan. 23, 2000.

"It was one of the worst days of my life," Brind'Amour told the Courier-Post. "It worked out great for me, but I honestly hoped I could have been a lifetime Flyer. I have tons of respect for someone like Bill Barber, who spent his whole career in Philadelphia, and that's what I wanted.

"And to be traded for another centerman who I thought I was better than really (ticked) me off. It's not like they traded me for a goalie or a defenseman. They traded me for another centerman. It was a kick below the belt.

"At that time, of the 20 guys on that team, I was the one that bled orange and black, and it left a bad taste in my mouth."

Ten years and a Stanley Cup later, Brind'Amour could be skating at the Wachovia Center today for the final time. Now in his 21st season, he finds himself face to face with his own NHL mortality.

The beginning of the end came Wednesday when, at the urging of Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford, Brind'Amour surrendered his captaincy to 25-year-old teammate Eric Staal.

Brind'Amour is convinced that if the Hurricanes were not last in the NHL with a 15-27-7 record, he'd still be captain. But he recognizes the winds of change in Carolina are just starting to blow.

"We've heard for a couple of months that we're transitioning," Brind'Amour told the Charlotte News & Observer, "and I'm sure there's going to be a lot more things happen there in the next couple of months to shake up the team, getting ready for next year and down the line. (Changing captains) is just a natural thing to happen."

Many around the NHL wonder if Brind'Amour's relinquishing of the captaincy will lead either to his retirement or to a trade before the March 3 NHL deadline. Brind'Amour has one more year on his contract, but Rutherford suggested Wednesday that his alternate captain might need to be coaxed into retirement.

Ugh, had to turn down free tickets to this one because I have too much homework. What a dagger. Gotta get the two points here!
