Panthers interested in Ales Kotalik

Quote:
The Panthers have shown an interest in Rangers RW Ales Kotalik, who has eight goals and 14 assists in 44 games this season and is a minus-16. He is making $3 million through 2011-12. Quick, someone call Florida GM Randy Sexton to get a denial, please
http://www.edmontonsun.com/sports/ho.../12588281.html

Florida has many forwards signed for next season. They would probably want to swap one of their underachievers for Kotalik.

Kotalik is a 20-25 goal scorer. Look at his career numbers. Even in the seasons he didn't score 20-25 goals, look at how many games he missed due to injuries. Pro-rate his numbers and they come out to 20-25 goals.

Looked at their forward list and almost fell asleep. Can't see who Kots brings back at forward that would may have a impact on this team. At least one that the Panthers would trade for Alex. Bryan Allen on D might help.

Looking at the +- stats on this team, and where they are in the standings, it seems like they are pretty decent at even strength.

I'd be really surprised if there was any validity to this rumor. Sexton said last night that he's in touch with GMs around the League every day, but right now all that's out there is guys with bad contracts. Seems to me Kotalik would fall in that category.

I rarely believe a GMs lips, but I can't see how Ales would help the Panthers, would be a whole lot more of the same for us.

Edit: Just saw Garrioch's name at the bottom, well, in the middle. He's as reliable as Eklund.

Any way Florida would trade Olesz? If the Rangers added a bit more then Kotalik would that get it done? Probably just wishful thinking.

Good point, but he won't be out all that long. I thought that I heard that he would only miss 4 weeks.

Yeah, they said he will be out for 4-6 weeks. Kinda hard to believe for a broken leg.

I thought the same, but its his tibia and apparently doesn't require surgery. The Olympic break helps, but they also said, and not many of us really believed, that Booth would only be out a few weeks. I'll be surprised if he comes back at all this season.

Garroich is a rumor-monger!...But you know what. I don't mind it so much, especially with all the inactivity on the trade front at least he gives fans something to discuss other than the lack of scoring, and the lack of physicality!

I would like to see Stillman here. He's a former Torts guy, is playing well and can be a decent dish to Gaborik.

Kotalik for AJ Jenks!!! Clear $3 million, and get a future 3rd line center with size.

Who the hell cares who we get back? As long as it's an expiring contract it's a win in my book.

We're wasting 3M in cap for this guy to drink beer and eat popcorn!

We don't need an impact player...we need someone with a contract ending this year. The Panthers can have Kotalik for the next 2 years. Addition by subtraction.

I just took a look at the Fla roster...and whenever you think things are bad in NY, just revert back to Florida's website.

We'll send him south for a bag of used practice pucks and no backsies.

I like Al and wish he would show a little bit more when he gets on the ice... I also wish he could hit the freaking net more often with that bomb of his, but he hasn't done that. I'm thinking after the last 2 games, we're going to see Kotalik back in the lineup so maybe he'll show something....

on the other hand, to free up that kind of cap space, I'd take a draft pick back... optimistically a 2nd, but maybe a 3rd or 4th.

rIf we could get a 2nd or 3rd rounder back I would be satisfied with that.

Getting a roster player back is of no concern to me. Moving the contract while gaining an asset of any kind is addition by subtraction.

Problem is that we have 4 of these mistake contracts on out books. Moving one is a help, but moving the main mistake is of the utmost importance.

Overpayment. The Grudge 3 is more fair for both sides.

FLA gave too much . How about Kotalik for a puck bag (with no pucks inside obviously)
