I wouldn't mind Moore either, $1.1 million and a UFA after this season, can't go wrong with that.

Wouldn't Florida have to have Huselius on their roster to make that deal, being they're the team supposedly interested in Kotalik?

No way Columbus would do that trade anyway, and it would leave us with even less cap room to work with (after replacing Higgins).

If we can trade Higgins for a pick or prospect, I'm all for it, but otherwise I'm fine with just letting him leave in free agency next year. Kotalik is the real problem. I hope we can find some way to get him off the books.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, if Horton is out for the year, the Panthers can put him on LTIR, and replace him with an equivalent salary...Kotalik makes less than Horton, so there really isn't a need to take back salary.

on HNIC last night they said Horton's only supposed to miss 4 weeks. Was probably just a hairline fracture.

Good point. Open the books a bit . More wiggle room under the cap.

Seriously. At this point, dumping Kotalik for anything is a good trade, because it allows us the opportunity to get something decent in free agency (maybe)...I still say that what we should be doing is trying to dump Redden/Rozy by any means necessary (or maybe closer at the deadline) and then Kotalik to free up space for a run at Kovalchuk in the offseason. It's not like these guys are producing anyway, so having them gone isn't a hit to our team.

Why isn't he gone already. Once they heard a team is interested, he should have been on his way out.

This isn't NHL 10, Sather doesn't just get a proposal, look at a player's stats, and say "OK" in a matter of 5 minutes.

Although I would venture to say that's how he goes about signing free agents

And once done manipulating the personal offensive stats, look at the rest of his game.

Might be of value for the fantasy team. Not another NHL team, not with that contract.

WHO are we getting in Free Agency outside of Kovalchuk? Have you guys seen the list of players here? its one of the worst free agent classes I have ever seen.

All opening up the bank does is allow us to bring back Staal and Girardi.

For Kovalchuk we'll need a lot more than just Kotalik off the books...in order to re-sign Staal, and Girardi (Assuming you dont trade him) you'll have to get rid of 2-3 of these guys...Redden, Rozsival, Drury, Kotalik...and youll probably need to get rid of Brashear as well.

But it also allows Sather to make a trade for someone who isnt on an ELC. Salaray cap space is always a good thing to have if possible.

Fla doesn't touch that w a ten foot pole. They don't really have bad forward contracts and with the injuries prob don't want to move any. I think something that could work for both sides is kots + girardi for allen and a 3rd. Dan needs a fresh start elsewhere and fl is prob willing to gamble on him doing well down there, we save cap space in the process and get a pretty solid vet dman back while getting rid of dead weight.

Kotalik for a 3rd to replace the 3rd that was traded for Boyle. He was traded for a 2nd at the deadline last year, his value hasnt gone down that much.

Looking at the +- stats on this team, and where they are in the standings, it seems like they are pretty decent at even strength.
If you're going to move a non impact player like Kotalik, you can't expect to get an impact player in return.

I would get rid of Kotalik for a 3rd or a 4th, we don't need anything back just look at this as step one in a multi-step process to get Ilya Kovalchuk here on July 1st.
