Perhaps this teams lack of success, inconsistent will to compete is not being helped by our current captain. Not Bashing Drury, just saying maybe he's not the right guy for this bunch. When the team just can't muster up the effort to compete, just stands around while the NHLs PIM King pummels the elite talent somethings gotta give.
I was refreshed by Averys comments after the Montreal game. Calling out the team. I know he would be seen as a risky choice for the C by many. Perhaps he wouldn't have the respect of the teammates, but he would have the respect of much of the fanbase imo.
Unfortunately there really isnt any obvious choice besides Drury. Rosi has seniority yet he is in every trade proposal. Redden would be a very unpopular choice. Is the rest of the team just too young and not experienced enough?
"You can say it's a lack of preparation, but that's BS; it's a lack of competitiveness," Sean Avery, perhaps the Blueshirts' best player, told The Post. "We do not play hard enough.
"I don't have the explanation for it. I don't know if it's us not holding each other accountable, or what, but it's a total lack of respect for our fans and the organization. It's a joke."
I agree ,although not a big fan of the goaltender as captain.
when the goalie is far and away the obvious leader on the team, and has been a Ranger the longest...oh and the rest of the team is total garbage...then yeah, make him the captain.
It might be a joke having Avery as captain, but he's one of the few players that looks like he gives a damn each and every night. That's not to say that the others players don't really care--they just don't play like they do.
Avery isn't the best choice for captain, but I'd still like to see it. None of the other options inspire much confidence either.
I don't think this team looks like they don't care. They look lost at times.
Their problems are not as simple as leadership.
Drury looks like he doesnt care. I know that might not be the case but it sure is frustrating when the team plays so poorly and shows such lack of support for each other.
Keep Drury as captain. I really dont see what would change amongst the team if there was a captain change.
By the looks of it, the guys seem to like Drury. It would be a different matter if he wasnt liked by everyone and rubbing them the wrong way all the time.

At this point, it shouldn't be about what the guys like.
Jagr was a GREAT Ranger.... Whatever happened in Pitts and DC he didnt bring it here.
And Drury has been lauded as a great teammate whereever hes gone. Not a negative word has been spoken about him in his decade+ in the NHL. And Im not talking about idiots on a message board who know nothing about the situation...Im talking about teammates, you know, the guys that are actually in the lockerroom and know whats going on.
People want Drury to blow a gasket because it creates the illusion that he cares. When has he ever done that? Never.
Besides, if Drury really didnt care, dont you think our coach, "Mr. Accountability," would have stripped him of the captaincy by now?
