TBN Comprehensive on Golisano's Ownership Initiatives

A non-Bucky take on the ownership group: Link

And the salary number revisited:

<i>At the same time, the player payroll will be appreciably above Golisano's previous public estimate of around $30 million.

"When the dust settles, we're going to be at $33 million when the season starts," Quinn said. "Tom is demonstrating that he's willing to make an investment in the competitiveness of this team."</i>

Seems the money for reasonable deals for both McKee and Satan is there, so that at least puts the kibosh on any that reasoning...

Interesting tidbits off ice:

- He's trying to get games on TV in So. Ontario. Best way to win back fans in a market is give them something to watch.
- Suite sales are up
- New sound system including an new organ
- Ribbon ad system
- New projection system to show images on the ice
- Customer service? From a company in Buffalo? Who'd a thunk it...
- 8:00pm Friday starts... good for those crossing the border as well as the local restaurants and bars

Edit... that's border, not boarder... hockey on the brain.

That paint job should put the blue & gold rumors to rest...

Anyway, encouraging article!

What they need and Mark Hamister wanted is that ad board that goes around the arena. I donno how to explain it, but i know Philly, Colorado, Minnesota have one. It's very bright, i really like it.

Nah. They have to repaint the rink surface each year. Advertisers change, etc.

true, but if they were to go to b&g, they'd probably paint the logo those colors, eh?

they're not gonna melt the ice to change the paint job.

Electronic ribbon advertsing. Supposedly the Sabres are getting it.

If and when the unis change, expect a totally new logo, not just a rehash of the goatlord.

Not in the middle of the season, no. A change, if there is one, won't happen until the start of the 04/05 season at the earliest. I remember reading in an interview with Quinn after they played on the blue & gold for the final game that due to league marketing hooplah that there was no way a change could happen for this season.

If you go on the Sabres website, multimedia, and click on the 360 degree view of the arena, you can see that they are taking down the time board below the suites and putting it up higher to where the 300 level is. They are clearing off the space below the suites to add the ribbon advertising I think. You're right, they are awesome. I've seen it in Ottawa and Philly.

Ribbon advertising is awesome?

Do you guys watch TV and then go to the fridge when the game is on?

The only reason it is good is it makes the Sabres more viable.

Only a Tim Connolly lover wouldn't enjoy ribbon advertising...

j/k but its still pretty cool. It's not the most amazing thing in the world, but I always liked it when the sens scored and they put those graphics on the ribbon in Ottawa. The on ice projection machine is what I like best.

The ice projection should be pretty kickass, true. One of my earliest hockey memories is watching some team score and then the spotlight shone on the player who scored. I think it was when the Flyers beat the holy snot out of some commies, but I don't know for sure. This could be 10 times better.

Except when we don't get to watch pee-wees run around the ice between periods. Instead, we get commercials! Time to get a beef-on-weck.

One thing that has not been mentioned but could be excellent is the new organ.

The home opening ceremony should be pretty awesome considering all of the upgrades.

I'm talking about at the game. I've been to Ottawa and Philly where they have it and it really adds to the game inbetween play.

It's annoying as hell watching it on TV.

I imagine it is annoying for the players too because it leaves a fairly large glare on the ice, especially in Ottawa.

True, imagine how much more money they would make from advertising with all that space.
