I figured the rumor mill would be slower than usual this year, but I'm still amazed at how slow it really has been.

I'd love to pry Patrick Sharp from Chicago and would hope that a slightly lower salary player (Olesz) and a pick would do it. It would give Chicago an additional 800k or so of cap room and give the Cats some additional scoring punch.

As well as Olesz has played this year, I'd still love to land former Catamount and solid point producer Patrick Sharp and would make this trade in a heartbeat.

Seems that Seidenberg likes it here, and wants to stay here. I like Leopolds offensive abilities over Seidenberg's, but I think Seidenberg has been our most steady Dman, and if I had to choose between the two, I want Seidenberg. Both would be a great sign though. They are both still under 30, Seidenberg likes it here and Leopold is good friends with Ballard, so maybe a 2-3 year deal for both wouldnt be out of the question.

"The Panthers have shown an interest in Rangers RW Ales Kotalik, who has eight goals and 14 assists in 44 games this season and is a minus-16. He is making $3 million through 2011-12. "

lol wow.
If he was under contract for this year only then this would be believable.

Thankfully, this is being reported by the completely unable to be believed Bruce Garrioch.

I wouldn't mind Kotalik here. Would be pretty cool. Hope we can lock him up for 2-3 years.

He's terribly inconsistent and makes 3 mil until 11-12, no thanks.

Well I want this team to change it up a bit so I'm all for bringing in new guys.

Who knows, Kotalik might play better in Florida than in New York, right?.

NO WAY, especially with two years left at $3 million per. Im all for trying to get Whitney back in a Panther uniform. I wouldnt mind seeing him here for the stretch run, and maybe next season.

I'd also rather go after Whitney. At least we can choose what we want to do with him in the offseason since he wil be UFA.

And with Whitney, I do believe he would re-sign here and maybe even for less than he would other places. I mean c'mon..

I hear ya man, we all do, but Kotalik would just be more of the same, and at too much money.

I hope so, but this organization has left me scratching my head many times to be sure. I can't imagine nothing being done with both Horton and Booth injured with uncertainty as to when they can return.

I think they'll be active one way or the other. Sexton has 3 guys on one year contracts and several RFAs with expiring contracts, that tells of activity one way or the other.

Sexton said the other day that it depends on how the team does leading up to the Olympic break as to whether we'll be buyers or sellers. The deadline is only a few days after the break is over.

These next 9 games I believe it is, before the break are huge.
If we falter, I see the team selling some guys off for some draft picks.

If we're still in it, I don't see us "buying." What I see happening is perhaps something really minor if a move is made. The organization will use the "we've been in the race this long, and now with Booth and Horton coming back it should only get better" line.

Really, there's not much they can do, in terms of a major trade.

I think this team, when fully healthy (which knock on wood will happen soon), can make the playoffs, in this mediocre Eastern Conference. And that's really the progress that the organization wants. And the fanbase will be satisfied with a playoff berth, too, for now.

So I don't see too much activity on our part.

Meh, I can see them bringing on Whitney, I really hope they don't want them going anywhere near Kotalik, that would be a HUGE mistake, imo. Not sure who else is out there, but I can see a few changes being made. You're right, though, likely won't be huge if we're 'buyers.' Not sure what/who they'd move for what/whom.

Deadline is 3 days after the Olympic break ends - should make for a very interesting 3 days. I don't see us getting Whitney either. What would we send to our division rival to rent him out? I hope not a top prospect. If Carolina wants anything more than a mid-round pick or marginal prospect, which I doubt, MEH. Fuggetaboutit.
