One of the most exciting times of the year for hardcore hockey fans (along with the draft and July 1st). I don't know about you guys, but I've had a "sick" day from work/school for about 9 years running now on deadline day.
Any guesses as to which players will be moved? Number of deals?
Each year people say that it'll be a slow day, and then there ends up being 20+ deals. I can't really see it being any different this year. Maybe there won't be many "big" deals, but plenty on minor ones at the very least. There are sometimes waiver pickups and soon to be UFA's locked up on deadline day as well.
Who gets Kovalchuk as a rental?
What happens if we're out of a playoff spot? Do we offer a guy like Hamrlik for a prospect and a 2nd round pick? What about Mara? What if we're battling for a position and we sit somewhere in the 7-9 spot? Does Bob take a chance and trade for a rental that can give us a boost?

I'm betting nobody does, Waddel fails and Kovalchuck heads back to Russia next season.
Why would anyone be interested in Mara? Plus isn't there a unwritten rule that states you don't trade a player you just signed? ( Even if it's a 1 year deal )
I could definitely Mr. Gainey take a chance on a rental, specially with the kind of cannon fodder we can send the other way. ( D'Ago, SK, MaxPac, Price, Halak, etc... ) We aren't exactly short on players that aren't untouchable.
if dallas moves Morrow he should be the top priority for us hes exactly what we missing i wouldnt mind getting Steve Ott and im prett sure he will get traded dont think he will cost THAT much i think we can get him for carle and like 5th
I'd love to add either Clowe or Morrow. I just don't think either would be available. I do think we have a shot at Raffi Torres though.
At the start of the season, Clowe was availabe for a 3rd and an ok prospect.

Not sure about that for this time, though. Bob seems to have opened space on the bottom two lines for new blood. Maxwell isn't really meant for that role, though he will get a look now to see if there is any way he can replace Pleks if the latter decides not to stay.
In any trade involving Halak, you guys must remember, he is our #1 and with Price, we are in contention for Taylor Hall and with Halak we are competing with NJD.
Numbers are quite clear, go look in the Price vs Halak debate: Here and here
I'm pretty dam sure no one has mentioned any goalies take it elsewhere
And just when the debate was heating up in the other thread, it was closed before capacity and killed the discussion

Watch Price get traded and become the dominant goalie elsewhere. And then watch Halak become another Huet or Toskala and we'll all be calling for his head. Then Cedrick Desjardins will be the next best thing and we'll run Halak out of town. Cedrick will then be the "next one".
Where were you when Price made 53 saves? When he was stealing games back in November and first two games in October? When he stole that road game in Boston and Washington? Where were you when Halak was getting lit up against Pittsburgh and was pulled? When Halak let in 6 goals against New York? When he let in 4+ goals in regulation even in his wins? When he got lit up vs. Buffalox2? EH?

Ive said this multipule times,
If Price gets traded im OK with it
If Halak get traded IM ok with it .
If Price can fetch us this years number 1,2,3 draft pick i say GO FOR IT
It's all about the return
Yeah he might turn into a top goalie but we might also be drafting a lights out forward this year.
So 10 years from now we can say we traded Roy for Crosby jr then we can rest well..
NOW if it turns out Roy for fred smith then we feeeling pretty blue.
Its all about return. On the Habs id say no one except 4 guys should be untouchable.
everyone else at the right price .

I'd love to get Ott and then re-sign him, not sure if he's available or what Dallas would want.
Another guy i'd love to get would be Ladd but since Chicago is a top contender I doubt they trade him so in the off-season i'd like to see Gainey try and get him as he's an RFA and will likely get a raise.
Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta
Cammalleri - Plekanec - A. Kostitsyn
Ladd - Ott - S. Kostitsyn
Moen - Lapierre - White

Argh stop. Both of you.
We should stay pat at trade deadline. Maybe divest some non core players like Mara, D'ago if he can't put it together in his next 2 weeks in hamilton for picks.
Like I said before, Gill got TOR a 2nd and a 5th. I hope to get a 3rd and hopefully a 5th or 4th for Mara. We need picks for this draft cuz we have 4 or 5 picks this year. (someone confirm?)

Really? I would have loved to have a guy like Clowe especially given the injuries to our top 6. He can step up and play a top 6 role when people are injured or not playing well and play a 3rd line role at other times.
