Laraque to AIK Stockholm? Will play for his worth.

So, according to H I/O, Laraque is in talks with AIK Stockholm of the 2nd highest Swedish league. Here's where it gets interesting- Laraque is offering to play for free under condition that the team pay for his transportation, meals and insurance. Talks are being had between the Canadiens and AIK.

Soo... from the NHL to a 2nd tier league in Sweden, and he will play for free.

Poor Georges.

I wonder, if he signs with another league does it affect his contract here? Like, does it take his contract off the books?

Why isn't he going to Haiti to help with the aide mission like he said he wanted to do after the earthquake?

don't understand why they would take him, he can't keep up with the play and probably wouldn't fight at all

Laraque playing in the SEL? This is the most ridiculous sounding thing I've ever heard. He's slow and has no skills, what is he supposed to do?

Good to see all those super great classy Habs fans acting proud and tough behind their computer. ******** on Laraque's head is all he deserved because he accomplished absolutely nothing in his worthless life.

He's willing to move to Europe and play for free just so he doesn't have to fight?

All he had to do was drop 'em once in a while and people in Montreal would've loved him.

BOO @#$%$#ing HOO

If this was anyone other than Georges Laraque (media darling, french canadian) you wouldn't even click this thread I bet.

Would you feel the same if we cracked jokes about any OTHER useless enforcer? Boogaard? Peters?

He would have to be waived. Then the Habs could lend him to the Swedish team. I believe we'd still owe his contract in dollars, but he'd come off the 23 man roster and would no longer count against the cap.

Obviously, he'd have to waive his NMC to facilitate the move.

But unlike half this forum.... Best of luck. If it lets him play at a level where he can contribute in all areas of the game, good for him. I wish him the best of luck.

Funny little story, but never underestimate the talent of any NHLer. Including a goon. Stu Grimson was once my hockey school instructor and he could do things with the puck that I can only dream about doing. And by NHL standards, he was basically George Laraque. Same for other goons. Gordie Dwyer grew up in the same town as some of my friends and he was the kid who could skate circles around the entire town and score at will. Even the biggest goon has to be unreal talented.

Since when are enforcers needed in the Swedish leagues?

Some guys in the LNAH would actually give him a run for his money and many would challenge him on name recognition alone.. But then again he would probably try to become an offensive star or something in the league so i doubt that he'd drop them very often.

That said if BGL still wants to play hockey and going to that Swedish league makes him happy then good luck to him. I don't hate the guy , i just think that he wasn't doing his job properly and therefore was useless to the Habs.

I doubt Georges is going there to enforce anything. He's going there to play hockey and possibly try to improve his skillset and stay in shape so that he may have another shot with an NHL team next year.

I really don't know, but a similar situation happened this season.

The Caps sent Nylanders to the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit's AHL team) and his salary doesn't count on the cap anymore.

I don't get why Laraque doesn't just quit hockey and start training for the UFC, really, he wants to fight people who agree to fight him, or maybe he's just too ***** to fight anyone who won't "agree" to fight him inside an ice rink. Seriously though you want to fight people who "agree" to fight you, go do box or become an MMA fighter, if you want to be a hockey enforcer do your damn job and maybe you won't get bought out by your next team or have to play for free.

That is not a fair thing to say.

And secondly, he did say that he'd really want to but admitted the fact that it would very dangerous and he's unsure about risking his life or something to that effect.
