Some guys in the LNAH would actually give him a run for his money and many would challenge him on name recognition alone.. But then again he would probably try to become an offensive star or something in the league so i doubt that he'd drop them very often.
I'm not so sure about that, during the lockout i went to see a game between verdun and quebec, Brashear was playing for quebec. he ended up fighting like 5 times and destroyed everyone. im pretty sure that if laraque actually faught in that league he would win.

So if he goes, he,s waived ... the salary is no more against our cap ? Is that right ?

That would be perfect!

I don't get why he doesn't want to play in the AHL. He's not NHL good anymore, but he'd surely do decent in the AHL.

Isn't it in his contract? No AHL and no waivers or something like that,Gainey should have never accepted that especially at the offer Laraque got

Well said. Doesn't say much about a man when he hits another who's already down.

It would be unfair to say assuming he didn't go on and on about wanting to leave the team to go to Haiti to help out but implied he couldn't. It's akin to saying you'd fight someone when being held back, then once released you back down.

Besides, he could work equally hard with fundraising here then going to Sweden to play for nothing.

So to recap, he says he wants to do more but can't once he can he says it's too dangerous and on top of that, will go to Sweden to play tier 2 for free rather then stay here and fundraise for a cause soo endeared to him that Gainey was "low class" to cut him during such a difficult time.

Unfair? The only thing unfair is him continually cashing a paycheck he has no business cashing in.

According to his HockeyDB page he didn't play a game anywhere during the lockout. He may have signed somewhere, but never laced 'em up.

This thread is so telling about posters...anyone who hits on George Laraque is actually lowering himself. The guy was humiliated by the team, he was doing a tough job that is slowly disappearing. Why he "deserves" so much hate is beyond me.

Good Luck George. I'm looking forward for your next fight IN the NHL and I'm sure than even after that, you'll do much more with your free time than 99% of people who criticize you.

If memory serves correct, he played for a team in Quebec city that was known for brawling. I could have him confused with someone else.

Its irrational hate, but can you blame anyone?

This is a hockey forum, where some of us don't come to in order to make friends and be socially correct.

We are fans of the Montreal Canadiens.

Georges Laraque played for the Montreal Canadiens.

And he was useless. He should donate the rest of his salary to Haiti, not like he ever deserved it in the first place.

Well, he wasn't doing his job. That was the problem.

Whatever, though...best of luck, Laraque.

I think anyone being paid that much money to do a job that he doesn't do and lets him team down deserves being berrated. He didn't even try this year which is soo frustrating.

I was a huge BGL supporter when we got him and all of last year. This year, he basically mailed it in and then had the audacity to insult that hand that fed him. That shows NO class on his part. Gainey is a class act around the NHL and bends overbackwards to help accomodate players when shipping them out. BGL is a piece of crap and he showed his true colours after being rightfully dismissed.

Notice the teams work ethic since BGL was fired? They seem a bit more passionate and on their heels don't they. It's called manegement and now that players know what Gainey will do if they don't play to par they should bring their "A" games on a nightkly basis.

I think your definition of 'humiliation' is a bit off. He was paid millions for a job he no longer did often. He is getting paid even after termination, paid millions of dollars. His team raised money to support his cause, and has taken care of him the last two years and stood by him when he made some poor decisions of his own.

How was he humiliated? Because, to be honest, you can look around the world on a daily basis and find a reason to be depressed. Heck, Laraque just has to look down the road, to the childrens hospital, if he needed inspiration to score a goal.

Life is about perspective, I don't see how Montreal humiliated BGL in any way at all.

I think it was almost a beer league. The Quebec City ....Radio? or something to do with Radiation maybe? I remeber it was all over RDS that an NHLer was in that kind of league.

It was Brashear who played in the LNAH for the "Radio X de Québec" during the NHL lockout... and I believe he even got banned from the league for punching a player in the face that was lying on the ice.
