Maybe, it depends on if we win the Stanley Cup this year.
Conditional 3rd in Pronger deal (I believe)
Which works out ok for us actually, it means we can't trade the pick to anyone else in the meantime and since this team looks like a first round exit team if we play Washington or Pittsburgh, we can keep our 3rd.
And that's what scares me because he's shown a penchant for tossing draft picks like they're nothing and he's also shown that he's not afraid to toss top notch prospects as well.
If the rights to Bouwmeester went for a 3rd and Jordan Leopold (and that was at the draft), the stakes to acquire a player under contract during the season and at the trade deadline becomes a lot higher. I could see him giving away a first and a prospect like Marshall or Bourdon for a Hamhuis and then watch as Hamhuis leaves because there's no cap space to sign him.
A 3rd and Leopold for the rights to Bouwmeester is a entirely different situation then one of our best defensive prospects and a 1st we dont have for a rental player we can't afford.

Wait we don't even have our third for this year? What did we trade it for?
I know that we don't have a first this year. It was part of the Pronger trade. However, we do have a first in 2011. I should have made that more clear.

We will not trade our youth and picks because we will build from within. Thats what Snider said right? in 2007 or 06.
Who woudl know that Flyers would trade a **** load of picks, prospects and young players by 2011..
this is what makes me sick about this franchise. Snider said they were going to be patient and do things the right way..through the draft/within. meanwhile a year or two later, they have traded away a ton of picks, young players and are totally capped out. it's hard to believe they haven't won in forever...
Its the gauthier 2nds, Carcillo 2nd, etc that are bad trades pick wise
A few trades were really stupid.
1. Eminger (what the **** was that)
2. Carcillo (as much as I like him), for 2nd and Upshall. CRAZY!
3. I like Pronger but I think we overpiad a little bit.
Not to mention Jones situation and disgusting contract there..
After drafting JVR we shoudl of rebuild for one single year. intead of trading 1st for Timonen and Hartnell and 32nd over all for Biron. Not that they are bad players (well I never like back up Biron).
But we were talking about one single year of rebuild.

My only hope is that once things come crashing down, Holmgren gets canned for putting the franchise in the position it's currently in. Yes, Snider deserves blame, but this is Holmgren's mess. Holmgren is the hockey man who makes the hockey decisions and it's clear that he's consistently made bad decision after bad decision when it comes to cap and asset management.

Just remember what happened the last time Ed Snider stepped aside
of course we had to trade those picks to "buy" Cap relief. Thats purely what the Upshall trade was among other trades.
Holmgren has been failing at cap management for the most part since he became GM

Yea we did have to do it, but if he realized the Jones mistake earlier, we wouldn't have needed to.
It's just lots of little things (some being necessary, like Upshall) that are continued mistakes.

What worries me is what's going to happen this off season. Once again, the Flyers are completely behind the 8 ball when it comes to cap space and you know he's going to have to deal someone to clear up space to make some signings. And in terms of dealing players, the choice is really limited to who they can and can't move out. Holmgren has screwed this team and it's going to get ugly.
Get rid of Bartulis, keep Syvret he's going to be a really good D man in the future. Syvret was playing well for us before his shoulder injury, he should be back after the olympic break.
I think Holgren has the right idea looking for a D-man, Flyers need a good defensive D-man they have enough offense now. Some of you were talking about picking up some D from the Leafs, I would like to see Ian White on our roster...he's solid and won't cost alot towards the Flyers cap.

Meh, Im a Syvret fan but at the moment, with their bad play and good play, they are about dead even. I think both could be 4-6 guys in the future, so I wouldnt trade Bartulis at all.

I doubt the Leafs will want to give him up. From reading some comments Leafs fans have made he seems to be one if not the top defender of the Leafs. He's second on their team in terms of TOI behind Beauchemin so I'm guessing he's their second best. If we were able to get him I imagine it would cost a lot more than I'd hope the Flyers would give.

Bartulis is head and shoulders above Syvret, both in terms of overall play and in terms of what we need.
The Leafs will probably trade anyone on their D before White - he's playing great hockey at a bargain price.
