Ken Campbell-Thrashers give Kings a list

Ken Campbell reported this tonight

Quote:
Multiple sources have indicated to The Hockey News the Thrashers have had significant trade talks with the Los Angeles Kings concerning moving Kovalchuk there in recent days. They reportedly presented the Kings with a shopping list of what it would take to get Kovalchuk and itís believed that while the Kings would be very interested in adding a scorer of Kovalchukís ability to their group of young stars, the asking price is currently more than GM Dean Lombardi is willing to surrender.

Itís not known exactly what the Thrashers asked for from the Kings, but itís believed to be a list that includes significant roster players and prospects. There is speculation that the group of roster players includes the likes of defenseman Jack Johnson and/or Oscar Moller or Wayne Simmonds and the prospects include 2009 first-rounder Brayden Schenn, along with defenseman Colton Teubert, Brandon Kozun and Andrei Loktionov. Kozun is currently second in the Western League in scoring and Schenn is 13th.

Is that all Atlanta wants for a rental?

So, they want our best players/prospects? Makes sense.

We also want your Campbell Conference Champions banner from 1993. It will class the joint up at Philips Arena.

I'd puke if half those assets were traded for Kovalchuk

Look, he is just guessing about what is on the list. What do you think the Thrashers want, their least valuable assets?

Then you can understand why Lombardi politely kicked Waddell in the nuts while dressing him up like a maid in a pink tootoo.

Doesn't say anything about Kovalchuk being signed. Just that any trading partner would "want" to talk to him before a trade.

Either way, that package would still be too much for a signed Kovalchuk. You are talking

Johnson
Moller
Simmonds
Schenn
Teubert
Loktionov
Kozun

2 top line NHL'ers, a top 6 forward, two recent first rounders, and two mid tier prospects. Good luck with all that.

LA makes sense; no way waddell wants kovy in the east. what was the hossa deal? 2 roster players, esposito and a 1st?

so ya gotta figure in waddell's mind, he wants a bit more...

simmonds, + moller + schenn + 1st?

it's a lot i know

Well, you have to think the cost may come down a tad the closer we get to the deadline. I still think Lombardi wait until the end of the season to sign him as UFA.

Sure, if Lombardi can talk to him up front. If not, no way.

I doubt LA gives up their 1st, they are hosting the draft aren't they?

Pretty sure the speculative list wasn't meant to be all-inclusive.

More like a "these are the players we want - pick and choose who you'd part with".

Yeah, but we could always trade you ours, then trade up to get another.

Unless you're talking about Kovalchuk, himself, refusing to negotiate in light of a trade, I don't see why Atlanta wouldn't trade a signed Kovalchuk. If he's not staying in Atlanta, then screw it. Let him negotiate with whatever team wants him if that's what it'll take to get the best return.

Refusing to let him sign an extension as part of the trade doesn't help Atlanta at all.

Then, again, if I'm Kovalchuk and I have the opportunity to play wherever I want, I think I'd be the one refusing. Which means the deal ought to include picks conditional on Kovalchuk's re-signing with his new team in the off-season. And picks are cool, but that's not what you want for a player like him. You get young guys who are already in the NHL or are very close to it.

So if it's up to Kovy's discretion, this might not happen. But if you're Atlanta, you could very well want the option of trading a "signed" Kovalchuk.

I think as a Kings fan, we all know Johnson would be part of the deal. That is already accepted.
If LA could pry Kovalchuk for Johnson, Moller, and Kozun, I think it would be a good deal. Something tells me there would be a conditional pick along with those guys and I would think Atlanta would throw in a prospect or potentially a defenseman. I would love for LA to get Valabik coming back as well, but realize that may be a stretch.

If I were LA I'd be willing to overpay. They've got a ton of young depth with a whole lot of value. Kovalchuk would be a game changer for them, and could make them a real deal contender year in year out.

None of it makes any sense because LA isn't in the situation that Pittsburgh was in. They aren't competing, and therefor don't need him this year. So giving up that many assets doesn't make a lot of sense.

Second, simmonds, moller, schenn, and a first is 3x the deal that was given for Hossa.

-It says Johnson OR Moller OR Simmonds.

-It says "includes the likes of"

-The list is purely speculation.

You don't think LA has a chance to make a good run?

The whole issue is that the two can't come to an agreement on a contract.
