I thought he was out last year in the AHL with something?

Both! Both have shown signs of being competent NHLers, why shed either.

Both but IMO we should also keep Pouliot. He has looked good on the 4th line for us as well. If I had to pick Brule is the best of the 3.

I wasn't aware there was an issue with getting rid of either of them. They are not the problem on this team, and make minimum salary.

Next.

If you had to pick it would be Brule imo. I think Potulny is a good asset and could turn into a 20 goal scorer under the right conditions. Having said that Brule has the better shot and is faster imo. After watching the hawks game last night it is obvious we need to get faster.

Lots of people were writing him off, but I really wanted to see him get a look under Quinn. He kinda turned into a two-way player with the ability to put up 30 points. Now if only he could develop shutdown skills, we'd be in a better position.

Say what! You complain about Tambellini chasing high priced talent but you are willing to sacrifice the meat and potatoes type guys. These guys are the epitome of secondary scoring which every franchise needs.

The other thing to remember in this "debate" is how much younger Brule is than Potsie.

These guys are the epitome of secondary scoring on a 30TH place team.

Brule has something to offer but through fragility or bad luck, can't seem to stay in the line up and Potulny is a depth, call up guy, at best on a playoff team.

I don't see either of the guys as big parts of the solution moving forward right now, so yeah, both because I want to see steps towards coming up with solutions.

I see Brule, Stone and Potulny replacing Moreau, O'Sullivan and Pisani on the bottom 9 as part of the solution
I'll keep both if they sign for 1.25M-1.75M\yr

Of the three I would say only Brule has a chance at becoming as effective of a player as Moreau or Pisani (of three or 4 years ago) and they were a staple on an 8th place team. Shouldn't we be shooting for higher than that?

This might not be a popular answer, but I wonder if we even re-sign Stone. He just seems to simple of a player. If he could develop some really good defensive skills I'd keep him around, but I can kinda see what Pens fans were saying about him when we acquired him. A pretty one-dimensonal player at the moment.

I think this is the problem we have right now. We want to get rid of vets because we have guys that may be able to replace the vets, but who is going to teach these kids? Just throwing the kids out and hoping they learn the skills doesn't work most the team. We did that in 07-08 and who of those young guys is any closer to being a solid 3rd/4th two-way player? Brodziak?

Still think it would be nice to bring in one or two vets two teach these kids. Kinda like Oates did with Stoll, Horcoff etc...

I saw the thread and immediately thought, why do we have to choose between the two? They're two random players...it's like saying,

CHOOSE: SMID OR GILBERT...

what does this accomplish? Sorry...I just really have no idea what the point of this is?

And none as effective as Horcoff is this year right? You sell Brule short, wait until we have some actual depth up front and we have more than 1 line that can put the puck in the net before condemning him to 3rd line checker status.

What's Horcoff got to do with it?

Brule has stuff to offer, I have no problem saying that. I just don't see him as being a guy they have to hang on to.

So who stays ahead of him? IMO up front Penner, Gagner, Hemsky, and that's it.

Both. These guys are going to fit in really nicely with the "youth movement" (assuming it goes through)

Brule easily. His versatility and upside are fantastic. Easy to forget that the guy just turned 23 a few weeks ago. Prorate his goal total this year to a full season and it's a 22-goal guy. He's also solid on the dot and a good forechecker meaning he's more than capable of playing a third line role and will only get better with more seasoning. Potulny I don't mind but he's also probably the furthest thing from irreplaceable. He has some positive aspects like a shoot first mentality that this team lacks but he's also pretty meh in most other areas and doesn't have near the upside that Brule has.
