Cola goes on IR, Strachan recalled

Has this been posted? I saw it on JR's twitter.

The Blues have placed Carlo Colaiacovo on IR with a lower-body injury. They have recalled Tyson Strachan from Peoria.

I believe it dates back to 1/21, and that Cola is traveling with the team...so its probably not too serious.

Interesting.

IR is 1 week minimum IIRC so earliest return date would be Feb 3 @ Chicago.

If they put it effective as the 21st it would be the 28th. What kind of crazy calender system do you have up there north of the border?

Yes, an offensive defensemen goes down, call up Strachan.
I'm a HUGE Strach fan, but Junland should have been the one recalled.

That would be true if he were actually going to play. But for a 7th man, I'd rather Strachan sit and let Junland stay there and keep playing.

If it is true that Colaiacovo was being shopped(rumor?), does this change his trade value?

no?

Strachan will be getting the nosebleed seats and Sydor and Weaver will be in the game. as per usual 2MM pwns.

I would of liked to see how Junland would have done if called up. Oh well any word on what type of injury Cola has. It can't be to serious i would think.

Considering the call-up was just for insurance and thus not likely to get into a game, Strachan makes plenty of sense. Besides, Junland displayed a lot of defensive weaknesses in his two NHL games thus far. I don't think now is the time to throw a kid out there who's likely to make a lot of defensive mistakes...maybe later in the season IF the Blues fall out of contention but not now.

JR twittered it like 2 hours before I made the thread, i.e. the 24th. Unless JR was 3 days late, and I don't think it's likely, I stand by my statement. I'm pretty sure 2MM meant that the injury (not the IR placement) dated back to the 21st, which I knew. I guess they got him checked out and decided to throw him on IR a few days later.

edit: JR wrote in Morning Skate that he can return Saturday vs Columbus. Guess I fail.

The nice and vague "lower body" injury.

I dont' know the precise rules, but if the injury happened earlier they can date it back to the last day he played. He just has to stay out for a week, but the clock started back on the 21st. They're still allowed to make that decision a couple days later, provided he didn't play.
