It says it's a multi-year deal as well. I wonder how long the deal is for.......

Awsome! Regier did seem a bit happy when he talked about talking to his agent today when he was on the Empire Sports Report last night.

Mair, Drury, and now McKee all got multi-year deals. The guys that got one year deals were mainly the young guys that the Sabres aren't worried about losing should the UFA age drop a few years in the new CBA or guys that just took their qualifying offers.

Buffalo, N.Y. (September 24, 2003) * Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Jay McKee on a multi-year contract. As is club policy terms of the deal are not disclosed.

“Jay has been an integral part of this organization since being drafted,” said Darcy Regier. “He has developed into a steady and consistent NHL defenseman.”

McKee (26 yrs. old, 6-3, 214 lbs), has been a mainstay on the Buffalo blueline since the 1998-99 season; his first full season in the NHL. He has consistently been among the NHL leaders in hits and blocked shots in each of the last five seasons. This past season, McKee appeared in 59 games (missed 21 with knee injury) and recorded five points. He was drafted 14th overall in the 1995 Entry Draft by Buffalo.

In 1996-97, he appeared in 43 games as a rookie and scored ten points as the Sabres won the Northeast Division title. In 1998-99, McKee played 72 games on the blueline and recorded 204 hits and 129 blocked shots while recording six points and averaged 20:28 minutes of ice time per game. In the 1999 playoffs, he played 21 games as the Sabres won the Prince of Wales Trophy in the Eastern Conference finals before losing to the Stars in the Stanley Cup finals. In 2000-01, Jay paced all team defensemen with 190 hits as the Sabres posted its highest win total (46) in 17 years. In the 2001 Stanley Cup playoffs, he scored the biggest goal of his career in overtime of Game Two at Philadelphia to give Buffalo a 2-0 first round lead in the series.

I've gotta think that Darcy is pushing for a 3 year deal with Miro and that they've gotta be close to getting a deal done. Does anyone have a link to his performace in the Elite League so far?

Good interview. I'm glad that Simon called Jay out on the fact that he hasn't been the physical, crease clearer that he was in the past. McKee also said what we wanted to hear. Hear's to hoping he backs it up!

WNSA just said Miro rejected the Sabres lastest offer yesterday. They said that Darcy will call him later today to talk about it.

Great news! It's hard to believe that Jay is still only 26. It feels like he's been around forever. But he's only entering his prime.

That's the kind of news I like to hear when i return home from being at school for 8 hours. Glad to see Regier got it done. Now if Satan signs, we're in good shape.
