He scored 20 goals in '07-'08. I'm assuming you mistook his Dallas/Tampa stats his two separate seasons.

i could see a team offering a 2nd for halpern..

i also think it's difficult to flat out compare whitney/halpern..

a team that wants to add a tad more scoring like pittsburgh, could drop a 2nd + on whitney, or a team that needs another stable 3rd/4th line center that can kill penalties while preventing goals to shore up a roster (like washington maybe?) could easily hand out a 2nd..

you should always start the playoffs with your 5th line center on your 4th line wing

Agreed Halpern's worth a 3rd tops, last season he was semi worth a 2nd because he had a year left on his contract, and no one wanted to pay that, but because of age and pending UFA status, a 3rd is the best Tampa can get for him at the deadline, if not a mediocre prospect.

I keep seeing this thrown around in trade deadline deal threads as a reason for the trade not being worth it. That makes zero sense as 9 out of 10 players traded on trade deadline day to contenders are UFA. They are rentals. The UFA doesnt put negative value on a player when it comes to these trades, in fact I would say it adds value to the player.

Forward wouldn't be bad.

Last season. Nik Antropov to NY Rangers for a 2nd round pick and a conditional pick.
Bill Guerin for a conditional pick

I wouldnt mind seeing Halpern back in a Caps sweater if it would monly mean a 3rd to get him. Might be difficult to sit a guy like Steckel to play JH but I would love to have some more Vet presence in the locker room and his penalty killing skills would be very welcome. Not sure how hes been doing after the last knee injury though.

Along with Cullen, Halperns my top target for the Canucks. I can't see him fetching more than a 3rd though.

Maybe a roster player off Vancouver due to cap issues...

Halpern for Hansen?

why the hell would we trade halpern in division for a capitals third round? (which would most likely be basically a fourth) id take a fourth/fifth from any team outside the SED

not that he's a huge scoring threat, but you dont help the teams that you face the most year in and out.

Bolts are in the thick of things, so anything less than a second probably wouldn't be cutting it

because if you did trade him it would likely mean your playoff hopes are done...He would also only be a pure rental so it wouldnt come back to "haunt" the bolts for years to come.

The caps third may likley be a late pick but I really doubt youll get as good an offer in RL from any other teams.
