Kings interested in Lecavalier

..that according to Ken Campbell of the Hockey News

Quote:
One team that appears to have entered the fray for Lecavalier is the Los Angeles Kings, who are also believed to be in the running to deal for Ilya Kovalchuk of the Atlanta Thrashers. So far, the deals presented to the Kings for either player have reportedly not been very attractive.
Quote:
The Kings are a natural destination for Lecavalier, partly because it’s believed he would not block a trade to Los Angeles
Quote:
It’s believed the Lightning would want a large package of players and draft picks for Lecavalier, along with the cap and salary relief they’d receive by dumping Lecavalier’s contract. The Lightning has apparently asked for defenseman Jack Johnson, right winger Wayne Simmonds, a prospect and several draft picks.
This is not the first time Vinny's name has popped up. If true, you have to start wondering if Dean wants a lethal 1-2 punch down the middle rather than a goal scoring LW.

Just throwing this out there..

This must be a joke. Lecavalier is not worth that package if true.

There will probably be a three way trade.

First, Tampa Bay will trade Vinny to LA

Second, Atlanta trades Kovalchuk to the Kings

Third, Los Angeles trade Frolov to Atlanta and Tampa Bay. Frolov will rotate between playing for the Thrashers and the Lightning. This will be an easy transition for Frolov who has made a career showing up for every other game.

Fourth, whichever team (TB or ATL) does not currently control Frolov, will retain the rights to Aki Berg as collateral.

Finally, Los Angeles will trade a conditional pick to both Tampa Bay and Atlanta. The pick is not actually a draft pick but secretly a condition that if the Kings when the cup in 2010 the General Managers will have their names etched into the cup as a member of the Stanley Cup winning Los Angeles Kings. Randy Jones and Raitis Ivanan's names will accidentally be left off.

bogus deal. Keep Simmer and JJ and the cap space.

I would love to get VL but I wouldn't due to his 7.72 is a big CAP hit and there is no way Dean will do it since its for the next 10 years after this season! He will be 39 years old...I'm assuming he agreed to retire after 6-7 more seasons but who knows.

If the Kings traded for Vinny, a center would have to go to Tampa. Otherwise, we would have Kopitar, Vinny, Handzus and Stoll. Stoll or Handzus would have to go to Tampa. I would trade JJ, Stoll and a prospect for Vinny.

Smyth-Vinny-Brown
Richardson-Kopitar-Simmonds
Frolov-Handzus-Parse
Ivanans-Moller-Segal

Not too bad...I would still rather get Kovalchuk on July 1st and just get Whitney for the playoff push.

Don't forget that the rumor was what Tampa wanted, not what Dean was willing to give up. Of course, other teams are going to ask for JJ and Simmonds, wouldn't you?

Not appealing at all. I like Vinny, and he is probably a DL guy more than anyone, but that contrat is an albatross. It is much more risky than Kovalchuk, and that price is too steep. Thus deadline and Olympic break will likely be the most suspenseful an interesting one for us in years:

At an equal cap hit, who do you think Dean would rather have, Vinny or Kovalchuk? Dean has always preferred centers over wingers.

Is Lecavalier's cap hit 7.2 until 19/20? I can't comment further until i fully understand the implications of his contract. If it is, however if we could buy him out towards the end of it maybe in 16... then I wouldn't consider it an albatross...
Consider we signed Kopitar to a 6.8 cap hit 7 yr contract at the beginning of a year where he scored only 66 pts(Granted this yr was not involved in his signed contract, it was a risk eventhough I am a big Kopi fan- I do critique him a lot though but am a fan). Vinny does have a Cup and is still an elite player on a team that is not very deep up front.
Keep in mind we desperately need centres. Handzus is too slow in the west to be a #2 centreman and Stoll is a very good #3 centre not #2. Kopi would flourish with a high scoring supporting centre, which we do not have...

Vinny would be a better fit for the team but you can't ask the world for a player with a cap hit like that. A Vinny kopi punch would be awesome

This thread is ludicrous. Tampa will have to pay a team to dump that contract.

$10-million per season in salary and bonuses for the next 6 seasons
$8.5-million in 2016-2017 - Age 36 at beginning of the season
$4-million in 2017-2018 - Age 37
$1.5-million in 2018-2019 - Age 38
$1-million in 2019-2020 - Age 39

I'm assuming VL agreed to retire after the 2017-2018 season because there is no way any team can take a 7.72M CAP hit for a 37+ year old player. Problem is at age 35+ he won't be worth a 7.72 cap hit either.

Kopitar and Lecavalier down the middle for the next 5-6 years would be awesome but not the next 7-10 years.

I still perfer Kovalchuk.

Guys, this is crazy, but how about...

We trade for Lecavalier for Moller+prospects, then flip him plus our first to Atlanta for Kovalchuk. We end up re-signing Kovalchuk, Atlanta gets a guy that can help them now and in the future and everyone wins!

...then reality hits.

Vinny has a trade clause in his contract, he would have to approve a trade to Atlanta and I'm not so sure he would waive it.

I believe once a player waives his NTC, it goes bye-bye for his new team. Or maybe that is specifically stipulated in the contract whether or not the NTC is trade-proof.

I think so too. Once you waive it, it's no longer in effect.

That's interesting, I didn't know that once you waive it, it is gone forever.

So, the Sharks can trade Heatly whenever they want now?

I think so.

But I also think that there can be an extra clause that says "If I waive my NTC, it stays with the new team." Not sure about that, but I am pretty sure that barring such an extra clause, once its waived its gone.
