There are two things I absolutely don't understand during this OT:

1) Gill on the ice as the same time as Bergy and Maxwell. I personally think Hal Gill shouldn't be on the ice for OT unless were on the PK. The guy cannot keep up with pace of 4 on 4 hockey. The fact that Hal Gill probably spent more time during that OT on the ice than Pouliot is a very scary thought.
2) We catch a break and it's 3 on 3, Martin decides to put Markov, Plek and....BERGERON. Are you serious? I forsure thought it would be 2 offensemen aka Pleks and Pouliot, and Markov. We had a PP at the end of the period, he could have used Bergeron then.

This team is in some serious trouble. They have probably lost Cammy for a long period of time, and they have played more games than anyone else, and are still not even close to climbing the standings. If we manage making the PO, than Gainey is a genius...if he's is still our GM by then.

Some good skate/stick-work by Fisher in passing. An interesting stats "side note": only two Habs forwards failed to register a shot on goal this game. Ben Maxwell, and Scott Gomez. Gill makes the third, and final, Hab to not register a shot today.

Look at RDS homepage. "Bons baisers de Kovalev" with a Fisher picture?

What's maddening is that Fischer always does the same move when he's on a breakaway and faces the goalie. Always on the left side. Always, always, always. It's frustrating that Halak didn't know it was going to happen.

All we are missing is a drug scandal, and this year would rival last year in epic failure.

That might be, but seeing the way he fell and the amount of pain that went along with it, I'd say he's likely gone for quite a while.

I didn't have my hopes all the way up before anyway, so I'm not falling from very high. This is just the continuation of a very disapointing season on every front.

What is the team supposed to do? That was just an unfortunate collision

The Habs put up a decent fight but fell just short against the hottest team in the league...Congrats to the Sens on their 9 game winning streak..Outside of the Ottawa area I don't think the rest of Canada gives a crap about the Sens....I know I don't..

Can a mod change the thread title, please? "Hard fought loss in OT" or something?

Pretty sure we're tied in 8th place right now, which is the playoffs. Sure we have more games, sure we might not make it - but I have hope and if you don't.. just leave the boards until next year.

Exciting game, at least to me.

I thought Gill was by far the worst player on the ice for both teams. Bergeron is going to take heat, but I thought he played hard all night.

Me neither, but it's the new reality of the NHL and we have to get used to it. With the salary cap, the trick is to draft high for 2-3 years, hope your players don't flop and build around them while they're not earning top dollars. You have a window of 3-4 years MAX before it all falls down.

I think today, if you want to win, you basically have no choice but to tank at some point. It's a loser mentality, I don't like it, but it seems it's the only way to win.

Yup. If Cammalleri is hurt, which it looks like he is, then that will be a reason why the habs miss and saves Gainey.

Any coach we get is dumb. We could get Scotty Bowman back and he would suck. Coaches here are so stupid. I don't remember Martin being this dumb in Ottawa, or Florida.
Gainey has run out of immunity. Its not like we were 4th with Cammy in the lineup anyways. Its over for Robert Gainey

That point just got us tied for 7th, we leap frogged 3 teams...doesn't matter since we have 3-4 games more played than the teams chasing us. We could be in 12th if the teams playing later all win today too.

Absolutely. If the goal of that organization will be to be a serious contender or to at least give a great show to the fans, get tougher, be tough to play against, have a great mix of talent but grit and toughness, I'd say the Molson could find Gainey being unable to do the job.

But since the goal is to just make the playoffs and do 1 or 2 rounds, CLEARLY Cammy's absence is enough of a reason to not succeed, permitting to save Gainey's job.

So for whoever wants it (myself included), you should be done thinking it. Let's hope he deals adequately with what's ahead of us. I'd wish that the media bashing about him stop but it will get worst by the minute.

It looked to me like Halak made the intial save and either Markov or Fisher put it in with their skate.

We never got a very good view though, so I'm not sure.

No, when you assemble a team of midgets, you should expect to have a higher number of injuries. Progner already explained the concept.
