Mattias Norström made his first appearance in AIK 1991-92. He played 83 games for the club in SEL. He was drafted 1992 by Rangers and the debut season 93-94 he mostly played with Binghamton Rangers in AHL. His first NHL game was against Caps 11 october 1993. 14 mars 1996 he was traded together with Nathan LaFayette, Ian Laperriere, Ray Ferraro and a draft pick in the fourth round (Sean Blanchard) to Los Angeles Kings for LA Kings legends Marty McSorley and Jari Kurri (and also Shane Churla)

In Los Angeles Mattias have developed into one of the best defensive defenders and is ranekd high by both the board and the fans. The 1 october 2001 he was named captainafter Rob Blake. The last season Mattias missed the last eight games due to his elbow injury, therefore he also missed the World Championships.

Totally he have played 684 NHL-matcher and 31 Stanley Cup-games, 10 goals, 106 assists and 545 penalty minutes.

He have also played 62 games for Sweden and played in 5 World Championships, 2 Olympic Games och 2 World Cups.

Mattias will go back to LA to fix a few things before he arrives in AIK (in one or two months)

That a player of Mattias class choses to play for the club in his heart, even if the club plays in Division 1 (Tier III, SEL, Allsvenskan and then Division 1) shows on huge clubspirit that makes us touched. Welcome home Mattias and thanks !

--------------------------

I just translated the most important parts.

Guess if im happy, AIK is my favourite club and we have gone through some tought years, first we dropped down from SEL to Allsvenskan (tier II) and then we were relegated due to our poor financial situation to Division 1 (tier III). Now we are second in the league with good chances to reach Allsvenskan again and with Mattias help...

There have been rumours that Rob Blake will join us too since he wants to play where Mattias does that, they have already talked about it, so you never know

Ah I wish that AIK would have still played in SEL this season, what a team we would have got then:
Miika Kiprusoff (even if TPS is his first club he made a name of himself in AIK), Mattias Norström, Dick Tärnström, Nicklas Hävelid, Henrik Tallinder (lot of d-men) and Michael Nylander.....
