Like Stevens, Pronger and Downie learned respect over their career. Playing on the edge makes him valuable.

I agree fully. If we are calling Cormier as a potential great though, what do we call a guy like Hall? Legendary?

Cormier should be a serviceable NHL'er with a role, who will show have the intangibles and the skill which will seperate him from fringe players like Jamal Mayers. Great is a stretch though. Peca and Madden were great - do you think Cormier has the potential to shut down like they did? I don't see it.

Oh, absolutely. Madden's defensive game when he was younger was nowhere near what it became after our coaching staff got a hold of him. Albany and Devils coaching made Madden into the player he became. He came in wanting to be a scoring center, we said we needed a shutdown guy and turned him into a shutdown guy. Cormier has all the tools to be a Peca or a Holik, and frankly I'd be shocked if he didn't become that kind of player in pretty short order. Give him one, maybe two years in Lowell - if that - and Cormier will be a staple shutdown guy in this league for a long time.

Edit: besides, he's proven about all he can about his defensive acumen to this point of his career. He was downright dominant defensively in the 2009 WJCs.

Cormier has excellent defensive instincts, is big, strong, physical and is a great faceoff man. He has the potential to be every bit as good as Madden on defense.

I disagree with the 2009 WJC evaluation and I was watching him very closely.

I also worry about the type of impact this suspension will have on his game. If he takes too much physicality out, as we have seen before with other suspended players, he will lose most of his value.

I guess I just don't agree that he will be a great center one day. Oh well, he's young and there is plenty of time to prove either his doubters or his fans wrong.

At the cost of Corrente, Halischuk and a 1st.
and Clarkson.... which, if you look at that lineup, is soft. Clarkson adds to that.

As mentioned, his value is greater to us than on the open market.

Everybody needs to be reality.

Kaberle is only getting dealt for a prospect 1st EFFECTIVE roster player.

NJD fans wont like this, but you need to overpay if you want kaberle

Henrique 2010 1st, clarckson

You do know he is talking about the year Cormier and Canada won gold. He was the shutdown center and did an amazing job against everyone he played against. I doubt Cormier tones down his game.

Toronto fans aren't going to like this but they will not get that value for Kaberle and they will lose out on the assets while sucking as a team. That would be like Blue Jays not trading Halladay.

I'll let Devils fans cobble together a fair price out of the following pieces.

To NJD:
Tomas Kaberle
Matt Stajan

To TML:

1st Round Pick 2010 (non negotiable)
+
one of Adam Henrique, Matt Halischuk or Nick Palmieri
+
two of Brandon Burlon, Eric Gelinas, Alexander Urbom, Matt Corrente
+
one of 2nd in 2011 or 4th in 2010

I don't know why we aren't asking for Tedenby here. He is the devils best prospect, you start with him + 1st and you add from there.

1st rounder 2010
Tedenby
Bergfors
Prospect/Mid pick

Kaberle
Stajan

For

1st 2010
Bergfors or Tedenby
Halishuck

Seems fair to me.

Maybe a 4th coming from NJ as well, but looks good in my books.

Would be more then happy to send a 2nd or 3rd your way if Stajan resigns in the summer or a conditional based on our playoff performance.

Sounds good to me. My only concern is that to make this work cap wise next season we would have to move at least Oduya. Are there any prospects or future considerations you are willing to give up for a good 2nd pairing/capable of 1st, defensively responsible with much offensive potential if he's in a fast pace system. He's having a rough season due to injuries and a more defensive minded coach but there's no doubt in my mind he will bounce back and be of much value to ours or any other team. He's also on the Swedish Olympic team. He can play a quick, fast paced game or a down-tempo defensive game. He's also known to lay a big hit here and there and will drop the gloves if needed. He's also a year or two from his prime so he's still developing.

^ He's beating up Shawn Horcoff.
