Eklund must have known about the complications. That guy's two-steps ahead of everyone. That's why he didn't even bother mentioning anything regarding Kotalik.

@ Boom Boom Geoffrion: Are the massive overpayments insufficient to lure UFA's?

thats trading UFA's for Kotalik. It's a good deal only if you think Kotalik has a positive value, which he doesnt.

we need a 3rd maybe even a 2nd to do that deal.
ya 2nd or 3rd.

Back half of the Phaneuf deal? Sutter was reportedly talking to Sather about a potential deal. Kotalik is a goal scorer, so it might make some sense. Flames also have a couple extra bodies on the roster so it might fit that way too.

So Kotalik has been asked to waive his NTC and he's going back to New York to decide on it? The guys been a healthy scratch how many times? He's not wanted on the Rangers, yet he's contemplating whether to leave.

I don't get it.

I think visually in his picture the massive overpayment is represented by the ice cream and whipped cream.

Honestly, I don't think Sather significantly outbids other GM's. I really don't.

I think Kotalik would have earned 3M a year if he signed elsewhere. Gomez, Drury, and Redden would have gotten their money as well, had they signed elsewhere.

Sather might include NMC's in contracts, because he probably knows he can work around them if need be.

Really? He outbid Dallas and Columbus for Redden. He outbid the Kings for Drury. He was surely bidding against someone for Kotalik. He also won the bid for Gaborik, which right now looks OK for a change.

New York would have to sweeten that a bit to eat the remaining years of his contract. A mid-level prospect with some offensive skill?
