How dare something happen around the league that is not related to the sainte flanelle? Surely Gainey should have tried acquiring :
Phaneuf
Jokinen
Lecavalier
Giguere
Kovalchuk
White (for Plekanec )
...
Who else now? Hossa for a change? You guys want Gainey to build the team intelligently yet become intensely jealous at every single deal happening around the league. Even mediocre over the hill players getting waived should be picked up, hell, some people wanted Sykora! Intelligent building means not every player traded fits with the team Gainey envisions. Phaneuf has a huge salary, Jokinen isn't that good and is a UFA and Bob has been trying for AGES to acquire Lecavalier and only failed because the trade was blocked.
By the way on the trade board people are saying it's Jokinen and Prust for Higgins and Kotalik. Not that it makes a big difference but yeah.
I don't understand why Sutter is trading guys when their value is at its worst. I know he has to make a change but geez..
Because he has a deal in place for Kovalchuk or someone of the same salary stature (Vinny?) and needs to get under a certain amount for the league to allow the deal b/c of the cap.
Why would Gainey care about any of those players is anyone's guess. I'm ******* sick of everyone saying Bob sleeps whenever a trade happens in the NHL.
+1. Best reply ever

Reason: be nice
Yeah off course gainey isnt aware just yet we just let cammy walk home... I am just tired of gaineys flair he is around the league he must be aware of what is going on and sometimes be the first to move but bob is always late thank god pouliot is producing.
I may overeact sorry guys i hate when everyone improves or steal some players while we watch the show..
I'd rather Gainey do nothing than panic and make a trade just for the sake of making a trade.

I would have to assume he has something bigger on the horizon, because he had too many forwards before this trade, and now he's picked up one more.
That doesn't really seem like Gainey's type, although you could certainly argue the Gomez trade was his own "ass-saving" move.
The Gomez trade and all the free agent signings. What Gainey did this summer is very out of character if you look at the way he built the team before.
Hopefully, he'll realise that it's over and won't make desperate moves in an attempt to salvage the season (and his job I guess, based on what he said earlier in the year).
Phaneuf is so overrated, and Ollie hasn't been good since Florida...both teams are going for names.
I agree. Furthermore going for names as you say is extremely typical of Leafs and Rangers, it really isn't that surprising and we should be careful before claiming these are the deals of the century.
