oh my god, this poll is a joke.

How could Mike Peca beat out Craig Ramsay? What is everybody voting like 16? Peca isn't even close to the same class as Ramsay was.

My beef is more with Rene Robert's placement, but yes, Ramsay was due a while ago. This poll went awry with pick 5. Schony before Robert and Peca....

Robert to me, and I saw him play plenty, was not nearly as complete a player as Ramsay. However, both were far better and much more complet players than either Peca or Mogilny.

My Top 10 Sabres would be more like:
Dom
Gil
Patty
Ramsey
Martin
Ramsay
Schonny
Robert
Sauve
Gare

I don't to want to come off sounding rotten, but this is arguably the absolute worst thread on this website.

What is next.....Dean Kennedy ahead of Jim Schoenfeld?

Val James, add Mike Moller. I'm sorry, but this thing really did jump the shark early on and I'm trying to have some fun. Maybe we should do a poll of the "Worst...Sabre... Ever". Someone post that badboy up - let the debates begin!

I agree with yours, KB, krt et al's feelings about the poll winners but well... they won.

Worst Sabre ever eh? I wouldn't even know where to begin in coming up with a set of choices.

Steve Dykstra was pretty bad.

I'm not trying to pile on here, and certainly not blaming you for the results. The concept itself is great. I am just wondering who is voting, and are the majority of the votes from people under the age of 10? Unless you are over 30, maybe 35, I don't think it is going to be easy to give out a good perspective of the players.

I'm 35 and anything prior to 1977 is hard for to fairly judge. However, I know enough about the Sabres to be able to overcome some of those weeknesses.

I remember Martin and Gil scoring in the All-star game held in Buffalo back in the late 70's, helping the Wales win 3-2.

I also remember Mike Ramsey in 82 all star game checking Gretzky and the press were furrious with him. The Great One said afterwards it was no big deal because that's the type of hockey he plays.

Whoever is voting obviously doesn't knowthe Sabres from the 70's and early 80's because players like Don Luce, Craig Ramsey, Rick Seiling, Bill Hajt, Lee Fogolin, Jerry Korab, and Jim Schoenfeld were awful damn good.

look at the following: look at how consistent Ramsay was

Craig Ramsay Games G - A - pts - pim
71-72................ 57 6 10 16 0 (rookie year)
72-73................ 76 11 17 28 15
73-74................ 78 20 26 46 0
74-75................ 80 26 38 64 26
75-76................ 80 22 49 71 34
76-77................ 80 20 41 61 20
77-78................ 80 28 43 71 18
78-79................ 80 26 31 57 10
79-80................ 80 21 39 60 18
80-81................ 80 24 35 59 12
81-82................ 80 16 35 51 8
82-83................ 64 11 18 29 7
83-84................ 76 9 17 26 17

All these years he was a 2nd or 3rd line player, and the teams main penalty killer.

On top of that, he was arguably the best PKer in the league for many of those years.

Peca's #'s games G - A- pts pim
94-95................... 68 11 20 31 67
95-96................... 68 11 20 31 67
96-97................... 79 20 29 49 80
97-98................... 61 18 22 40 57
98-99................... 82 27 29 56 81
99-00................... 73 20 21 41 67

I know it was a different era, but Mike Peca has no business being listed as a top 12 Sabres of all time. His numbers are average, only once did he ever play a full season, and he quit on his team.

The more thought I put into this ranking the more angry I get, because it is utterly a joke!

A better way would be have people send in their top 20, and use points to figure out the final order.
20 for #1
19 for #2
18 for #3
down to
1 for #20
