What is the difference between a NTC and a NMC?

Hey everyone. I don't usually post in the business forum but I think if I ask this question here I'm likely to get the best results and that this is the proper forum to post it in. So can anyone explain to me the difference between a NTC and a NMC? I know either can be added to a player's contract and if that player is part of a trade, he would have to waive the clause in order for the deal to take place. I just never understood the difference between the two so if someone can explain, thanks.

NMC - no movement whatsoever. No waiving, no nothing.

Ah so a player with a NTC can be waived without the player having to waive it? They just would have to waive the NTC if they agreed with being traded to the team in which the deal was in place with, ala Giguere yesterday to the Leafs?

And a player with a NMC would have to waive their NMC if they agreed to be put on waivers or traded?

Correct. Other ins-and-outs are put into contracts. But that's pretty much the jist of it.

NTC/NMCs - Still Valid After Trade?

If a player elects to waive his NTC/NMC to be traded to another club, is the NTC/NMC valid in the new city?

In reading an excerpt from the CBA, if the NTC/NMC hasn't taken effect yet, the acquiring club has the option of observing it or not, but I haven't seen a definitive answer regarding players with active, but waived NTC/NMCs.

For example:

Does Danny Heatley still have a NTC?
Will Kotalik (if traded), still have a limited NTC?

Well, per the FAQ, yes.

The only case where it does not, is if the NTC/NMC hasn't taken effect yet. If a NTC/NMC is current/valid, it goes to the new team.

Sorry for answering my own question.

NTC- is a no trade clause you can not get traded without your permission but you can get waived
NMC- you can not get moved anywhere without your permission

It would have been interesting, if the Coyotes had ended up moving, to see if Shane Doan would have sued for breach of his NMC like he threatened to.
