While I still believe we should fire sather, all I can say is... wow. I can't believe the flames are making this trade.

Sather should have saved a move like this for Redden or Rozy, becaause these GMs should smarten up about these rip offs they are getting shouldn't they? ahaha i hope not...

I just had an incredibly awful night, definitely one of the worst of my life.

But this still made me crack a slight smile. The Rangers may be in the midst of an up and down season, our fan base may be split between tanking and going for it, but, being a passionate fan of this team always allows me even the slightest reprieve.

Best of luck to Higgins and Kots. Welcome to Broadway Ollie and Prust!

It's too weird. Out here in Calgary the whole Phaneuf thing was like an earthquake, and this is like a strong after-shock.
If things stay as they are, then I would forgive people for saying "what the hell is Sutter doing?". But, I don't believe he has a death wish, so there's gotta be a method to Sutter's madness.

And yep, I've heard about the Kovalchuk angle. That would blow the top off this city if it happened. I don't see it as likely, but Sutter wanting Higgins and especially Kotalik seems even less likely.

Gotta love this stuff, haven't seen so much in-season intrigue in years.

I actually think Rozsival and even Voros/Brashear can be moved now.....They would likely have to take a Dman back ideally a UFA but even one yr left whatever

The man-love for Exelby on this board is ridiculous. I wouldn't even think about trading Rozsival for him.

Rozsival can get a decent return and Exelby is a healthy scratch on a horrible Toronto team.

I was really just messing around. Pretty much going for the physical defenseman plus exelby isnt making that much compared to rosie. But in any event, just a joke on my part.

HUGE win here for the Rangers. Not only did we get the best player in the deal, but we gave up the worst contract in the deal.

Higgins was a little tough to lose, but, his produciton was that of a 4th liner, and was hardly irreplaceable. he played hard, but not nearly hard enough to justify nullifying a deal that rids us of one of the worst contracts on our books.

Can Slats now turn around and trade Joke? Maybe Joke and Prospal for a late #1 from a Stanley Cup contender looking for help on the second line?

I think this is there main move. They won't be sellers but I don't think they will be big buyers. This is the perfect type of deal they could make. Keep the youth

Like I said move Rozy like TO did in the offseason. Rozy is not that bad so as long as they get something descent back on D/lesser contract its a good move

Doubt it, I believe Ollie is here for the remainder of the season. I could be wrong but I don't see why Atlanta would want Jokinen. If Sather can work some more magic, he will trade Redden/Rosy, a 1st, and a prospect (Gilroy, Sangs, McD) to Atlanta for Kovy. This would give us the top line of Kovy-Olli-Gabby!

However, I think this was just a cap clearing move and if Ollie can mesh well with Gaborik, then we might resign him

I highly doubt Atlanta will want Redden (who I believe belongs on waivers)... maybe a rosie/gilroy/dubi/1st would get it done. Atlanta is not gonna give up Kovalchuk unless they could get a guy like Dubi or Cally back imo

Sure, if OJ lives up to more of his promise. However, if he did, would the temptation to re-sign the guy take over? I mean, if Jokinen plays well and looks like he is reborn, would Slats sign him at a reasonable price and consider that the best strategy.
I have no idea what Sather considers playing well, or his idea of a reasonable salary. Obviously, his ideas are a bit out of the park.

Still can't believe he got rid of Kotalik. Well done.

I'm surprised to see no excitement at all over Prust, considering how people here always complain about our lack of toughness (and rightfully so).
Good to get someone who can actually fight...
Not sure how he plays away from the puck though.

why would a team out of the playoff hunt be moving a 1st rounder for 2 veteran centers? i can't think of a single bottom 10 team that that move would make any sense for

aw man, if slats is willing to sell to that extent, i kind of hope he would sell them seperately, and try and grab a mid tier prospect and a late 2nd a piece.
